Sony and Sucker Fist Production Just Ended July 2025 The Ghost of Yōtei Better understand your world, battles and new modes before this fall release date.
this 20-minute game demonstrationHosted by creative directors Jason Connell and Nate Fox, arrived today to show how the ATSU journey will be familiar and new, for players who love the 2020s Tsushima ghost. Whether you cut it, the Ghost of YōteiState of Play is one of the biggest games of the year we've seen so far.
For those who missed the game’s status, IGN takes the time to collect all the highlights for you here. You can view everything in the talk below while we wait for more updates before the October 2, 2025 release date.
The sights and sounds of Ezo
The ghost of Yōtei takes revenge on YōteiSix at all costs, focusing on ATSU. It's a bloody journey that causes Asu's enemies to fear her, and many fear that she is a legendary Onyro spirit to come to life. Yōtei's Ghost offers its journey of revenge in a completely new way, allowing players to return to the protagonist's youth with a simple button.
The entire EZO will encounter a very different land from the war-torn island of Tsushima. Yōtei's new map's Ghost is beautiful in itself, encouraging players to experience the ATSU journey, as Sucker Punch even says the adventure “focuses on player freedom, not any game in any game”. An example of this newly discovered player freedom can be found in a clue system that can guide players in new directions. While some information obtained during the interrogation may see ATSU heading to the snowy mountain where the attacker is hidden, another information may lead her to a village destroyed by fire and an army of samurai.
Sucker Punch wants players to choose to focus on fighting, exploring, story or anything they pursue. However, one recommended way to see all EZOs must provide involves simply using Spyglass and walking towards your eyes.
Exploring Japan in 1603 means finding familiar points of interest, such as the new Bamboo Strike challenge, and even more hot springs to relax, but players can also look forward to tough battles as bounty hunters. There are also some reflective altars that unlock new abilities for ATSU and will undoubtedly help her travel.
Yōtei's battle of ghosts upgrades
With a huge ATSU header, players will need to take advantage of new tools and weapons arsenal. While fans seem to have a lot of standard sword encounter opportunities, some new blades will help add to the stuff. Highlights include weapons like Katana and Spear, as well as the more infinite Kusarigama chain blades, lengthy Odachi, and even double swords. Each weapon can be upgraded, providing specific advantages in combat.
At the same time, long-range combat will mainly use two tools: bows and guns. The ghost of Yōtei gameplay glimpses how to use the latter to quickly take away distant enemies at the cost of invisibility. In other words, ATSU has more tools than Tsushima Jin's Ghost, and she doesn't keep it when it comes to using them to get out Yōtei Six.
Between the battle encounter and the brush with death, players can allow ATSU to rest under the stars. Here you can cook food, play music, and even meet allies while occupying all the sky in Ezo. With these changes, it can also be replaced by standard journals, known as ATSU's Wolf Pack. Sucker Punch calls the menu system “the way more role-driven allies and vendors encountered during ATSU's journey.” It's an easy way to see who can provide and with every face you encounter is wrapped in art.
Where Tsushima's Ghost connects with nature in a way, the ghost of Yōtei seems to depend on the player's connection to the world around him. One way to do this is to a new companion of wolfs that can tear the enemy's throats during battles, as shown in the game. Meanwhile, traveling through the fields of flowers can make your character improve while riding a horse. Sucker Punch also first demonstrates the intensive customization system of ATSU armor and the ability to dispel enemies through timely enough attacks.
Kurosawa mode returns with new immersive selection
Black and White omage in black and white is Legenadary director Akira Kurosawa's black and white omage, which returns after fans fell in love with it in Tsushima's Ghost. Not only is Sucker Punch happy with the reaction he received for the first time, but the team is still influenced by some of the famous artists in the genre.
This effect can also be felt in two other modes: Miike mode and Watanabe mode. As some movie fans may guess, the former rides 13 assassin director Takashi Miike and moves the camera close to move with more blood and mud. Meanwhile, the latter brings work by Samurai Champu animation director Shinichirō Watanabe, which features original Lo-Fi beats that are moments of exploration and battle.
Other highlights of the Yōtei game state ghost include the first browsing photo mode as well as options for standard English audio, subtitles English audio and Samurai Cinema, which have full voice performance Japanese dialogue with English subtitles.
The Ghost of Yōtei was launched on October 2, 2025 for PS5. As a last-minute surprise, Sucker Punch promises that the special edition Ghost for the YōteiPS5 console and the unique DualSense controller will also be available at launch.
