If you're looking for a Pokémon TCG card to invest in before its original price exceeds $1,000*, Pikachu with the Gray Felt Hat is a great option right now.
Originally announced in 2023 In collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and later as a treasure hunt prize when exiting the exhibition, Pikachu wearing a gray felt hat is the infamous 85th promotional card in the Scarlet and Violet series of the Pokémon TCG.
It's infamous for a reason, and unsurprisingly, it's a common story of scalpers destroying it for Pokémon trainers and collectors, causing such confusion that museums stopped issuing the card. Scalpers are even harassing tourists, demanding low prices for Pikachu cards so they can resell them on the secondary market.
Even a small staff at the Van Gogh Museum was laid off Misbehaving and reportedly stole a box of Pikachu using a gray felt hat card. In the words of Joe Merrick of Serebii.net: “It makes me sad and that's why we can't have nice things”.
At the time, the card was selling for anywhere from $100 to over $1,500 on eBay, but things have settled down now that the promotional card has been reprinted and distributed through Pokémon Center online orders. Well, as far as scalping goes.
It's no longer available, which means we've seen a real climb on this card over the past 12 months. View value data on TCGPlayerIn October 2024, we expect this card to be worth $139 in mint condition, and it's been (more or less) straight up since then.
Between March and July of this year, the price stabilized around $330, but then began to surge to its current level of over $680. if you want one Pokémon TCG Chase Card Looks like the price, out of print and a safe investment, I would still snap up the gray felt hat Pikachu today. I even own this one myself and I will keep it for as long as possible.
