Valve debuts its new consoleincluding the Steam Frame, a virtual reality headset that can handle both VR and non-VR games. Apparently, Steam Frame is also being used as a way to bring Android games directly to Steam users.
according to edgeValve will support and encourage developers to bring Android apps to Steam. As part of the program, Valve will release a Steam Frame developer kit for developers already using Android APKs to develop apps and VR headsets on Android phones.
“From a user perspective, our preference is that they don't even have to think about it,” Valve engineer Jeremy Selan explained. “They just have their games on Steam and download them and hit play…They are actually VR developers who want to release VR content, and they are porting mobile VR games, and they are already familiar with how to make these APKs. They are now free to bring those games to Steam and just run them on that device.”
This seamless transition from Android to Steam is possible because Steam Frame uses an Arm-based Qualcomm Snapdragon chip that can run apps directly. This will make Android games and VR apps easily accessible on Steam Frame.
In addition to the Steam Frame, Valve also announced a Steam Machine that brings PC gaming to the living room like a console, as well as a new Steam Controller. valve has yet to reveal pricing for any of its new Steam hardware Not yet, but hardware engineer Yazan Aldehayyat told IGN The Steam Machine is likely to be priced competitively, making it an economical alternative to gaming consoles.
“If you want to build a PC with similar features and performance, I think the Steam Machine will be very competitively priced and provide very good value,” Aldehayyat said.
