Two years later, Peacock and Sony are based on 2 twisted metal seasons in the video game series – this week ridiculed. Before making its sophomore season debut on July 31, Gamespot visited the Toronto scene and spoke with a number of cast and crew, including stars Anthony Mackie (John), Stephanie Beatriz (Steele) (Quiet) and Joe Samoa (Sweet), as well as writer and Showrunner Mj Smith.
We also mastered some images from Season 2, showing familiar characters and new characters, such as Anthony Kerrigan's Calypso.
Speaking of Calypso, he plays a big role in Season 2. This is because Season 2 is about a large vehicle battle competition held by Calypso.
Beatrice said the stunts in Season 2 were “really crazy” and that's not all CG. In fact, she laughed at the many practical stunts in Season 2, partly because of hiring Logan Halliday. You might know him by name, but Hollday is Ryan Gosling's stunt doubles, the action stunt movie Fall Guy Set a world record for most Canon volumes.
“We went over an ambulance. We did a cannon roll stunt with an ambulance, and when it turned over, it was really cool,” Halliday said. “We had something coming… We put together some chase sequences now that will surface on any platform, any movie, any TV show.”
For twisted metal, Halliday is organizing numerous stunts and fixed pieces, so he is nervous in different ways, even though he doesn't put himself in a car flipped over the fire.
“I feel very responsible because I want people to do the super dangerous things I usually do, and I'm standing on the side of the road waiting for it to happen. I'm going, 'I'm more nervous now than in that car.' That's a good thing, you want it to scare you and want to get nervous because if you don't, then bad things can happen,” he said. “It must scare you a little because, because you made a small mistake in anything we do and we or someone else could be hurt or worse.”
Meanwhile, show host MJ Smith said that part of Twisted Metal Season 2 was inspired by Netflix's Squid Game, in terms of the structure of the tournament. Smith also draws inspiration from his work on Netflix's Cobra Kai.
“I've been writing on Cobra Kai for a long time, so obviously I'm very involved in the way the tournament works and I've written some tournament plots,” he said.
Smith also discussed why the game was played in Season 2 rather than Season 1. He said it is important for the audience to connect with the characters first and see them in new ways and to better understand their motivations in season 2.
“We want you to understand how the world works, how the characters work, and how the story really is with John and Quiet, their relationships, and their emotional connections,” Smith said. “We want to build something that goes to the game, so when the game happens, what that means. So when you go to the game, you're like, 'Okay, I understand the world. I understand the characters.' Now we can have fun. What would it be like to be all these people in one place?
Another reason to regain the game in Season 2 is a practical one: money. Smith said it was “very expensive” to put it all together, and he planned to “do it right” instead of putting it on the screen before time.
