Anyone who has played The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt can choose between the two loves of Geralt of Rivia: Yennefer of Vengerberg or Triss Merigold. This decision even heralds the farewell of Geralt in the game. However, CD Projekt Red recently revealed that players won't always be able to choose between Geralt's love interests.
Adam Badowski, Co-CEO of CD Projekt Red said computer gamer The option to romance Triss was added late in the game. Prior to this, the team had been focusing on the relationship between Geralt and Yennefer. But bringing Triss back into Geralt's heart makes the game feel more personal.
“[The romance with Tris]was non-existent from the beginning,” Badowski recalled. “But at some point we understood that there was something missing from this lack of conflict, personal conflict… This decision was made very late, but it was great. It was a great decision.”
The Witcher video games have a lore beyond author Andrzej Sapkowski's original story, and CD Projekt Red didn't bring Yennefer or Cherry into the narrative until the third game. Instead, Triss played a much larger role in the first two Witcher games, serving as one of Geralt's main romantic options. If there is no possibility of a romantic relationship with Triss in The Witcher 3, then the opportunity to continue this romantic thread is missed.
Even though the game celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, CD Projekt Red is still planning The last patch for The Witcher 3 This will introduce mod support to the console port of the game.
