Those stories that have played Baldur's Gate 3 and learned this through. Karlach is a tie-legged guy who spent ten years in hell before the game, thanks to a guy named Gortash who sold her to a big magician and had a bomb that would inevitably kill her instead of later.
Belt said that during that time, I would really be mingling with someone. So while most of the players’ interactions with Karlach are happy, Karlach can choose to be a better person, but someone she has always been.
“For me, (Karach’s story is) a redemption arc,” Belt said. “I think she's a job in hell. She has to be (…) It's life in prison. That's where I'm in mind about it because otherwise, it's hard to connect it to things that are real. You're just thinking about people's behavior in those small communities. Essentially, I think you can completely change your survival.”
When the player finally kills Gortash, Béart provides an incredible monologue as Karlach, unleashing all the repressed anger, sadness and fear that Karlach spends all his time in hell, facing his inevitable demise. It's a great scene, and according to Béart, the monologue is the center of who Karlach is:
“That's the core of her. That's what she's hiding until she can't do it again,” Belt explained. “This is the work I auditioned for, so I always knew it was coming. When it happened, all the doors went out. All the ugliness would come out. It was a very satisfying and shocking experience.”
Béart added that this side of Caraach is definitely something they discussed with Larian during the recording, so even in Caraach's most optimistic moments, the pain of pain remains, perhaps why Belt is so effective throughout the process.
In fact, this is largely thanks to performances like Belt We gave Baudel the door 3 10/10.
