The Simpsons Hit and Run gets eye-catching Futurama mod – even the original game's lead designer was impressed

The mod, called Futurama Hit & Run, is now available as a free download in demo form – you just need to download a copy of the original Simpsons game on your PC to play.
The Simpsons originally launched in 2003 for PC, PlayStation 2, GameCube and Xbox, and was heavily inspired by the Grand Theft Auto game of the time. The gameplay of this Futurama mod also feels familiar, with you running around as Fry completing missions for characters like Bender, Professor Farnsworth, and Dr. Zoidberg.

And, of course, there's driving – Fry is able to speed around an area of New York in a hover car. One of Fry's special assignments is to escort Bender back to Planet Express headquarters while avoiding police officers in hovering police cars. But there's no sign of actual flight yet – maybe in the future.
Currently, the demo includes four story missions, as well as a collection of street racers, vehicles, costumes, and other Easter eggs to find and unlock. The demo also acknowledged that it currently uses AI-generated dialogue as “temporary placeholders.” “Professional voiceover artists are already involved, and their recordings will replace the placeholder content in future updates,” the modding team said.
The demo received a positive response, especially from Joe McGinn, who produced the original “The Simpsons: Hit and Run” more than two decades ago. “As the lead designer on the original game, all I can say is…this looks awesome!” McGinn wrote in a review of the mod trailer. “I want to play.”
Fans have been waiting for another Simpsons gameand previously hailed a separate unofficial Hit & Run project that looks to be remaking the entire game in Unreal Engine 5. Unfortunately, the idea ran into legal problems with Disney, and Its creators now say the final version will never be released.
Still, it's likely that Simpsons fans will be able to play some new, official games in the near future, as the series' The long-awaited Fortnite mini-season now appears to be finally here.
