For the second year in a row, it looks like the official LEGO tabletop game will be one of the most popular board/card games during the holidays. Last year it was Monkey Palacea fun strategy board game for up to four players. This year is bricks like thisa collaborative party game for up to 8 players. Bricks Like This: LEGO Party Game – Don’t Confuse Lego partyThe video game is available now for just $20 on Amazon and other major retailers.
Brick Like This and Monkey Palace were designed by Dotted Games, an Asmodee-owned studio dedicated to LEGO board games. Based on the continued success of Monkey Palace and the stellar performance of Brick Like This, we'll likely be talking about Dotted Games' third LEGO board game by this time next year.

Brick Like This supports 2-8 players and is recommended for adults, teens, and children ages 7 and up. It's a fast-paced game that's dynamically designed to provide a different experience every time you play.
Players were divided into teams of two and competed to see who could build miniature Lego models the fastest. One player builds a model based on instructions communicated by his or her partner. There are 92 shape cards and 48 LEGO bricks. The model has a minimum of 5 bricks and a maximum of 8 bricks. By choosing a model with more parts, you'll earn more points – although the instructor won't know what the model actually looks like until the card is flipped over.
In addition to the regular shape cards, there are 20 challenge cards that place restrictions on builders and instructors, such as closing your eyes or building the model with one hand, as well as limiting the types of prompts you can give as an instructor.
When the team completes their model, they flip the hourglass over and start a 30-second countdown until the end of the round. After six rounds, the teams tally up their scores and declare a winner. Each game takes approximately 15 minutes total.
$10-12 each
If you're buying Brick Like This to play with your kids or as a gift, there's another newly released LEGO experience that would make a great stocking stuffer this holiday season.
Ameet Verlag, one of LEGO's main book publishing partners, has created a series of activity kits for children aged 6 and up. dubbing LEGO Rebuild Activity Cardeach theme kit contains at least 30 cards and 25 LEGO bricks. Each card requires you to complete a challenge using bricks from a box. LEGO Rebuild activity cards are themed across a wide range of themes such as technology, space, animals and magic as well as LEGO City and Ninjago. Most kits sell for $10.
$39.25 (originally $42)
If you haven't played Monkey Palace, the studio's first game, I highly recommend attending a family game night if you like strategy and puzzle games.
Two to four players take turns building stairs and decorating a makeshift palace. Although this project is a collaborative project, you are competing with other builders for banana points.
“Monkey Palace” is recommended for players aged 10 and above. This build involves more “traditional” LEGO bricks, as it comes with 231 LEGO bricks and an official LEGO base plate.
Each game takes approximately 45 minutes and no two games are the same. Adding to the replay value is the inclusion of two double-sided maps, which are placed on the base board to vary the starting base. Here’s what Monkey Palace includes:
- 231 LEGO bricks
- lego base plate
- lego pallet
- 2 double-sided ground maps
- 67 monkey cards
- 14 bonus cards
- 3 trophy cards
- 4 player boards
- 1 rule book
