“Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D Remastered Edition” has been released on Nintendo Switch 2. Only the Switch 2 version of Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D Remastered is included in the sale, but other DQ deals don't. Retro RPG fans can Complete the Erdrich Trilogy by picking up Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remastered Edition Only $35 (Original price $60) at nintendo switch, PS5or Xbox on Amazon.
$50 (originally $60)
Like all Square Enix games on Switch 2 to date, the Nintendo Switch 2 version is a game key card and requires a 17GB download. If that bothers you, the Nintendo Switch version has the full game on the card and is fully playable on Nintendo's new console, but it's not on sale and Square Enix doesn't offer an upgrade path.
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remastered has won rave reviews from critics; it has a 84 yuan rating on GameSpot sister site Metacritic. Like Square's other HD-2D remasters, the first two Dragon Quest games look and run excellent on all platforms. A new orchestral score enhances the updated visuals. Square Enix has implemented a series of welcome gameplay changes to give players more customization options. You'll also discover new dungeons, meet new characters, and watch a more cohesive story unfold between the two games and DQIII. The first game is still the hero's solo adventure, but new playable characters in the sequel give you the chance to have a “modern party of four.”
If you want to play a few thoroughly retro turn-based RPGs that don't feel like a full-time job, this collection is well worth checking out. Dragon Quest I can be completed in 10-15 hours, and the sequel is around 20 hours.
$35 (originally $60)
The HD-2D remasters of Dragon Quest I and II complete Square Enix's Erdrick Trilogy (also known as the Roto/Loto Trilogy), a remake project that began with last year's Dragon Quest III. The remakes were released in this order, as the third numbered entry actually takes place before DQ1. So if you're interested in trying the classic Dragon Quest for the first time, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remastered is a great place to start.
Dragon Quest III is the first game in the series to feature a job system, which emphasizes working with companions as a true team. It's also a bigger game, with more places to explore and a longer running time; it takes about the same amount of time to beat DQIII as it takes to beat the first two games combined.
As mentioned before, the Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox versions of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remastered are only $35 on Amazon. Walmart has both Nintendo Switch and Xbox versions at the same price.
For Switch 2 owners, it's worth noting that Dragon Quest III has a free upgrade that enhances the visuals and improves overall performance.
We recommend trying Dragon Quest III before the original, not just because it's cheaper and technically a prequel, but because if you don't like its “classic” feel, you're unlikely to enjoy the first two games
$18.60 (originally $35)
If you don't have it, we highly recommend this lovely Dragon Quest art book. Dragon Quest Illustrated: 30th Anniversary Edition features 240 pages of art by the late Akira Toriyama, the series' legendary lead artist from 1986 to 2023.
