'The Mandalorian changed his priorities': Director Jon Favreau hints at hero working with New Republic in future for first time

The Mandalorian and Grogu Director Jon Favreau says the Disney+ series will show an “altered” version of its helmeted hero after three seasons of character growth.
Din Djarin's big-screen debut will follow the character's story after The Mandalorian's Season 3 finale, with Bounty finally hanging up his blaster and settling into a quiet life caring for Baby Yoda (aka Grogu).
By this point, Djarin has become a hero beyond the audience – he's caught the attention of the New Republic and crossed paths with Star Wars Rebels' Zeb Aurellios. Favreau teased that viewers will see the continuation of that journey next year.
“The Mandalorian has changed his priorities,” Favreau told empire. “The last thing we said[in Season 3]was, 'I don't want to go out and be a mercenary. I want to work for good people.'”
It's this desire to do good in the galaxy that leads Djarin to meet new character Colonel Ward, played by Sigourney Weaver, and go on a mission with Zeb. “Now we can actually play with him,” Favreau said of Rebels' purple alien Zeb. “Even if you've never seen Rebel, his voice, air and physical abilities make for a very compelling character.”
The development of Djarin's mentality makes sense not only for the character himself, but also for Disney's plans for the current era of New Republic storytelling, which will also continue on smaller screens with Ahsoka Season 2.
Fans still hope Lucasfilm will complete the storyline The Mandalorian, boba fett books, Ahsoka and skeleton crew in a big event movies ——Maybe it can solve the threat of Grand Admiral Thrawn? — 'Star Wars' writer-director Dave Filoni has said what he's doing in the past. However, exactly when that will arrive is unclear.
But before that can happen, The Mandalorian and Grogu must prepare to win over audiences who haven't seen a Star Wars movie in seven years since 2019's controversial Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Thankfully, The Mandalorian's core relationship between Djarin and Grogu will remain the focus of the new film, Favreau concluded. “That core relationship is the basis of the film as they set off together and face adventure,” he said. “Star Wars has always been about progression, growth, and the evolution of characters, sometimes for good, sometimes for bad. It's about apprenticeship, one generation teaching the next. There's a lot more growth that happens over the course of the movie.”
