Technically, the Devil’s 560-page hardcover isn’t marked as a “deluxe edition,” but publisher Tor Books includes some of the booms that are often seen in the collector’s edition. The black dust-proof jacket has a skull with candles. A cool little detail is how the letters in the title burn out of the flame. The removal of the jacket reveals a gorgeous red border and a lid of the five-pointed star printed in the center. The cover art nods to the subject, making the devil look like a mysterious book that summons the demon.
When you open the front cover, you will find a complete portrait. In addition to the end paper portrait, you can find a two-page map with annotations with lots of details, including the character sketches and buildings that appear throughout the adventure. The Devil is an action-packed adventure, known for Grimdark Tone Abercrombie. Like the author's other adult books, the devil is filled with bloody action sequences and dry humor. Telling from an alternating point of view in the fictional version of Medieval Europe, the adventure follows an unexpected group of anti-heroes who escort a street rat named Alex to Troy when she learns she is actually the heir to the princess and the heirs. Princess Alexia takes a road trip with her brother Diaz, a bizarre vampire Balthazar, a partially invisible elves who specializes in corpse magic, immortal knights and werewolfs.
