Assassin's Creed fans' new report on Ubisoft's long-term Black Flag remake says the game will no longer include any modern gameplay.
The report, published by French media GamesVideonoting that all modern parts of the Black Flag have been removed from the upcoming Piratical remake.
In the original Assassin's Creed: Black Flagplayers occasionally pop up from Animus to explore the office of Abtergo Entertainment, thus unraveling the clues about the story of Pirate Edward Kenway to the series’ overall modern narrative.
Ubisoft is reportedly adding extras from Kenway’s Pirates era to make up for lost game time (including other stories his pirate Mary Mary has read never before played in the base game, which is really welcome).
Other changes to the remake include overhaul combat and gear system for other more modern assassins' Creed games.
Overall, however, the removal of the modern part of the Black Flag seems to be the most notable change, and among some fans, the change has not been smooth, especially after ThreadBare Modern Bare Storyline in Shadow of Assassin's Creed.
“I hope they are not correct to delete the modern part,” hadwelost6388 wrote long reddit Thread discussion report. “Without modern storylines and ancient alien sci-fi games, modern AC games are just 3 clones of wizards with invisible mechanics.”
“They need to stop deleting modern content,” Zerozelath added. “To be honest, this is one of my favorite parts, and it's the earlier game. Actually, I was actually expecting it in the shadows after Valhalla ended, but then… the shadows have nothing. It's a big disappointment in that aspect. In that aspect, it's a big disappointment. Just like real modern things, modern things are part of the franchise, so the way the franchise works should always come in some form and present a general story in some form.”
“Oh my God, Ubisoft! Stop deleting modern segments!!!” added kamuigui. “The best thing in the series is that it’s obvious that we’re in the simulation!”
In addition to adding to the overall story of Assassin's Creed, the modern part of the Black Flag is closely linked to the narrative of Kenway's historical pursuits – leading some fans to question how Ubisoft will deal with the lack of a broader context.
“Doesn't deleting modern scenes eliminate a large part of the story about the saints?” questioned ARI441.
“I can't see how you do this story without something modern tied everything together.” “The ending of the game (in modern times) is actually a bookend for the whole story…”
Of course, at this point, digging into the modern storyline of the series, with long-term rival Juno, needs some reinterpretation, but considering how that storyline ends up being discarded and ends in the spin-off comic, this may be a great opportunity to do more there.
Ubisoft has yet to officially announce its highly anticipated Black Flag remake, although its existence is an open secret Years of leaks – include The voice actor from behind Edward Kenway,as well as Collectable figurines of the company making games. IGN has contacted Ubisoft for more information.
