Star Wars: A New Hope comic coming to premium art book edition

It might have taken decades to come to fruition, but when Star Wars finally got a comic book adaptation in 1997, it became a work of art. Illustrated by manga artist Hisao Tamaki, who brought the magic of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope to comic form is being collected into a new art book Published by Dark Horse Books. Following a successful Kickstarter campaign, Tamaki's original panels for the adaptation have been collected into a new hardcover edition to be released on June 16, 2026. The Art of Star Wars: A New Hope – Comics costs $50 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon.

This unique art book features high-resolution scans of Tamaki's original panels from the first volume of the Star Wars: A New Hope comic. The artwork exhibits all imperfections and production details that are typically edited out before printing, such as ink bleed between panels, handwritten notes, and other elements of the illustration process. The artwork is presented alongside a new translation of the original Japanese alphabet. The book also includes an in-depth interview with Tamaki.
The Art of Star Wars: A New Hope – Comics, Vol. 1 only covered the initial portion of the A New Hope comic, but the official Star Wars comic series continued beyond Tamaki's work, including similar adaptations of The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and the first prequel film The Phantom Menace, all of which were handled by different artists. The English version of the final volume was released in 2015, and there is currently no indication that the remaining five mainline movies will be adapted into comics. The mainline Star Wars movies aren't the only Star Wars stories to be adapted from comics. The popular Disney+ streaming series also has a comic book version in the works The Mandalorian. Illustrated by Yusuke Osawa, the series currently has three volumes, each of which recreates the story of Din Djarin and Grogu verbatim.
Most recently, Star Wars also got the animated treatment with the Star Wars: Phantasms anthology series on Disney+. The anime's third season is about to premiere, and you can prepare for two books inspired by the series. Star Wars: Phantasmagoria – Comic Anthology Several stories from the first season of “Vision” are retold through artworks by Shirahama Kaiguo, Osawa Yusuke and others. at the same time, Star Wars: Visions – Treasury Edition Two new stories are told, one written by comics legend Takashi Okazaki, which continues the Vision short film Duel, and the other, written by Momoko Momoko, delves into Sith worship.
There are also several comic book series telling new stories in the Star Wars galaxy, including The Legend of Luke Skywalker , based on the novel of the same name by Liu Yukun, and the six-volume Star Wars: The Edge of Balance Comic SeriesThe story is set centuries before the prequel film trilogy during the height of the Republic.
upcoming Star Wars: Lightsaber Path, Vol. 1 will kick off a new series in the sequel trilogy about Nyoka, a new character who dreams of one day becoming a Jedi Knight. After she stumbles upon a lost lightsaber, she is drawn into the conflict between the First Order and the Republic Resistance. The first volume will be released on November 11th and can be pre-ordered on Amazon.
