Fullbright has announced that its next game will be a low-fidelity narrative experience with branching dialogue called Springs, Eternal, with founder Steve Gaynor continuing to work as an indie developer.
In Springs' official synopsis, Eternal describes the project as “a short, focused, first-person narrative exploration game with a supernatural twist,” with a playtime of approximately two to three hours. It will launch on PC sometime in 2026.
The Fountain of Eternity is set in a creepy-looking retreat, where players will explore forest trails and interact with other guests to learn more about “deeply heartfelt memories of the romantic relationship that brought them here, and perhaps discover where it will lead them.” It all sounds a bit like Firewatch meets The Twilight Zone. Here’s the first look at the trailer:
“The Fountain of Eternity” looks to be another small solo project from Gaynor, following last year's “Fullbright Presents: Toilet Spiders.”
In the previous era of The Fullbright Company, Gaynor and his former colleagues released hit independent films Go home and sci-fi follow-up Tacomabefore Gaynor's teammates quit the company during development of the next game. open roadamong Reports on his toxic behavior. (Open Roads was later completed and released separately, without Gaynor's continued involvement.)
Eternal notes in Springs' press release that Fullbright “is now primarily the indie developer label of founder Steve Gaynor,” who “continues to focus on crafting atmospheric, emotionally driven first-person story games (and the occasional bizarre micro-game experiment) in an evocative lo-fi visual style.”
