Shenmue 3 Enhancement announced as “the most refined version of Ryo Hazuki's epic journey”

Yu Suzuki and publisher ININ Games announced the enhancement of Shenmue 3 on Gamescom 2025. It has been described as “the most refined version of the epic journey of Ryo Hazuki” and will see the 2019 version of Action Adventure on a new platform with new features and enhanced visuals.

Inin Games said the enhanced version is “more vibrant, faster, and easier to get than ever before, under the guidance of Yu Suzuki’s vision.” Expect “clearer” textures, faster load times and “smoother” gameplay. NPC density is also increased, a classic camera mode inspired by Shenmue 1 and 2, as well as various gaming tweaks.

Shenmue III enhancements will be released as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo (the specific Nintendo platform is listed as TBD, so it is not clear whether it is Switch 2 exclusive) and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store).

There are no screenshots or videos yet, but we do know that the owners of the original Shenmue 3 on the PS4 will provide an upgrade path for the enhanced version and will be rolling out in detail soon.

• 4K Texture Boost – Exquisite, more detailed environment and characters.
• DLSS/FSR support – high quality high-scale without sacrificing performance (platform only).
• NPC density increases – Urban village Niaowu feels more active, with more and more characters on the streets.
• Classic Camera Mode – Optional camera perspective, inspired by Shenmue I&II, and modern views.
• Gameplay tweaks – Optional endurance system tweaks, health fixes before combat and reduced smoother monetary barriers.
• Improved interactions – Cutscenes and dialogue skip options, extended QTE timing window for easier access to gameplay.
• Menu and UX Enhancements – Simplified navigation and useful purchase alerts.
• First selective – All major changes can be switched to preserve the original experience of the purist.

Shenmue 3 It was a reality after YS Net's record 2015 Kickstarter, and the company received the fastest $1 million promised for crowdfunding games.
