Last October, an impressive remake of Super Famicom JRPG. The Romance Saga 2 flies a little under the radar during a year full of great JRPGs, but the elaborate turn-based RPG by Square Enix is a unique experience that takes about 40-60 hours to complete the Mainline event.
Romancing Saga 2 is a 1993 remake of Super Famicom Classic. The original version was remade in HD in 2017, but remakes the full 3D graphics and overhauled the turn-based combat system to match the new “Timeline” system in recent titles, such as Saga Emerald Beyond. There are also some quality of life updates to make the game more accessible to new players, including a variety of difficult options.
You are a royal family who needs to fight to maintain control of the empire and contain the threat of apocalypse. In addition to a deep and nuanced combat system, Romance Saga 2 also has an entire castle building mechanism where you can build and manage fortresses around the kingdom. Like other games in the series, where you go, who you talk to, and which aspect of the mission you complete can make a huge difference in the story’s development. Even by modern standards, it’s an amazing open-ended experience, and the lovely remake is a great opportunity to have it try or revisit and try out a completely different story path.

If your PS5 and Nintendo Switch 1/2, the PS5 version looks and runs better, but the Revenge seven versions are a solid experience with Nintendo Handhelds. On the original switch, it runs at a fairly stable 30fps, 720p in handheld mode and 1080p at docking. In some cases, the loading time may be a bit long and you may experience some short frame rate drops.
As mentioned earlier, Square Enix released a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 version at the end of July. Pricing is the same as the original version, and the Switch 2 Edition is only available on ESHOP. That said, people with physical copies of the Switch can buy the Switch 2 upgrade package for $10.
From a visual and performance perspective, the Switch 2 Edition is significantly better. It maximizes at 1440p resolution and 60fps when played in docking mode. In handheld mode, you can play at 1080p resolution. In addition to visual improvements, Switch 2 users can get faster load times.

Saga fans can also book upcoming physical versions Romantic legend: Minstrel Song Remastered International For PS5 and Nintendo Switch. This superb restorator was originally released in 2022 on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, PC and mobile devices.
Just like the Romancing Saga 2, the boxed version of Minstrel Song Remastered is only available on the PS5 and Nintendo Switch. Square Enix partnered with publisher Red Art Games to bring the new physical version to the store.
International plan for romantic Saga remake launches December 9. If you are interested in adding a copy to your RPG series, it may be wise to book this copy as it will most likely be a small print.
