Confirming GTA 6 is really delayed againwe have news that Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 has become the fourth best-selling game of all time.
As detailed by the publisher Take-Two's Investor Conference Call Yesterday (November 6), the sequel had sold more than 79 million copies, becoming “the best-selling title in the United States (by dollar sales) of the past seven years”, bringing the entire series to 106 million copies.
To provide some context, think of all the wildly successful games released in the past seven years – Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Hogwarts Legacy, Ring of Eldento name a few – as well as everything released in the past few years decades. Apart from minecraft, grand theft auto 5and Wii SportsWith 350 million, 220 million and 82.9 million copies sold respectively, Red Dead Redemption 2 has outsold all games.
Red Dead Redemption 2 sold 79 million copies, ahead of previous fourth-place finisher Mario Kart 8, which sold an estimated 78.02 million copies, as well as PUBG (75 million), oregon trail (65 million), Terraria (64 million), The Witcher 3 (60 million), and the original 1985 super mario bros.. (58 million).
Then you might think that Red Dead Redemption 3 is a done deal. But Rockstar has yet to announce a sequel. Earlier this week, Rockstar Games co-founder and former head writer Dan Houser said he would feel more He was sadder to learn that Red Dead Redemption 3 was being developed without him than he was with GTA 6, but he admitted that the game “could happen.” As head writer, Houser has written nearly all of Rockstar's games, but Left the company five years agoHouser recently confirmed to IGN GTA 6 won't have a story or character set developed by himbut I still expect this game to be great.
“Certainly, giving up something that I'd been working on for over 20 years in one way or another and having written something on these pieces that had been published in the last 10 or 11 years, written all of them, or, you know, been the lead writer on all of them, whatever it was… it was a big change to give it up. It was sad in a way,” Hauser said.
“Because each Grand Theft Auto game is a stand-alone story, so with… I think it would probably be sadder in a way if someone went on to make Red Dead because it was a cohesive two-game storyline. It would probably be sadder to hear that someone was doing that. But again, that could happen. I don't own the IP. That's part of the deal. It's a privilege to work on something, but you don't necessarily own it.”
In 2023, Roger Clark played Arthur Morgan, the main playable protagonist of “Red Dead Redemption 2”, Says he's “sure” fans will see Red Dead Redemption 3 “one day”, But he qualified that statement, saying he didn't know when that would be. Clark also ruled out the possibility of Arthur Morgan returning to the game, if that is the case. This may seem obvious if you've played Red Dead Redemption 2, but there's always the possibility that Rockstar is considering another prequel.
“I'm sure we'll see Red Redemption 3 one day,” Clark said. “When that will be – I have absolutely no idea. And don't expect Arthur's involvement. I feel like his story has already been told.”
exist Later interviewed by IGNClark expanded on his thoughts: “Yeah, it's really popular! I thought it was obvious. What about you? And I don't have any inside information, but of course there will be another Red Dead. It's sold over 60 million copies!”
He continued: “Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said it himself. He said that GTA and Red Dead are famous series from Rockstar Games and they will return in the future. So there will undoubtedly be another Red Dead. But will Arthur Morgan be involved? To be honest, I highly doubt it. And I think it will be quite a while before we see any new Red Dead-related titles. I don't know how it will be out, but I wouldn't bet on Arthur being involved.”
Today, Red Dead Redemption 2 is widely regarded as one of the best video games of all time. We think it's a masterpiece too IGN's review returns 10/10. “Red Dead Redemption 2 is a game of rare quality; a beautifully polished open-world ode to the outlaw era,” we wrote.
