Pocket's Best Sun and Moon Pokémon Cards After The Crisis of the World Festival Reveals
Blog Andrew Joseph 24 May , 2025 0

When I saw the trailer Causes a crisisit immediately pulled me back to The sun and the moon era. That's when I started to focus on how weird and creative it was Pokémon TCG Can be obtained.
See Super wild beast All their weird designs and chaotic energy reminded me of the open crimson invasion pack without knowing what half of these creatures came from. It's messy, bold and (a little) perfect. So, I thought, let's go back to Alola and browse my favorite Sun and Moon Expansion Cards.
My Favorite Sun and Moon Pokémon Card
This new suit feels like pulling threads from that era. Buzzwole, Nihilego, type Null, even has a peculiar energy effect, familiar in the best way. It reminds me of Forbidden lightUnpredictability, Super prismThe flash of the Hidden fate.
Cosmic solar eclipse
The cosmic eclipse encloses the Sun and Moon Ages and brings something special: characters are rare. I saw Arceus, Dialga and Palkia GX cards laid on the trading table and it looked epic.
Rosa's full art card has this gentle power, and Pikachu characters rarely see the real smile when I first see it. That kind of work of art feels different from anything else.
Hidden destiny: a shining vault
The Hidden Destiny hit in August 2019 and the hype sheet was immediately rewritten. The shiny vaults were stacked. Shiny Charizard GX is the jewellery on the crown.
I've never pulled it, but I've seen people freeze on the locals and the tables. I opened a few packs, pulled a shiny trumpet, and immediately realized the depth of the rabbit hole.
Between the shiny Umbreon GX, Mewtwo GX and Full Art Birds trio, each package explodes.
Unified thoughts
Unified thinking keeps the trend strong. Mewtwo and Mew GX feel like something that crosses the border with fan fiction.
I've never owned it, but I've already objected to it and know it's no joke. Slowpoke and Psyduck GX make me laugh when I first see it, and then it makes me nervous once I see what it can do.
The precious ball comes from this set, and even if it doesn't seem flashy, it becomes one of the cards you need. It just worked.
Uninterrupted bonds
The uninterrupted bond worked harder into the tag team’s idea. Reshiram and Charizard GX were the biggest attraction, and a friend of mine had one at the time. When he pulled it, he looked totally shocked, as if he wasn't even sure it was real.
The Gardenvoir and Sylveon GX have some real visual chemistry and feel like a card to beat you politely. Dedenne GX blesses it and becomes a must-have on many decks. I traded later just to own it and immediately understood the hype. This is a practical knife on most decks.
Detective Pikachu
Detective Pikachu was released in April 2019 and rides the movie hype. If I tell the truth, it's one of the stranger scenes I open up. Each card in the scene uses live action CGI design from the movie, meaning you are pulling out surreal Bulbasaurs and slightly disturbing charms that look like they will blink.
I didn't open a lot of sets myself, just some promotional packs in one of the mini jars, but I remember someone pulling the Mewtwo GX on card night and looking very excited about its sinister look.
team
The team came next, and it changed the game using the tag Team GX card. I remember seeing Latias and Latios GX for the first time and thought it looked like a poster for an anime movie. Synergy, art, just clicked.
Pikachu and Zekrom GX are monsters on the competitive scene and I saw more than one deck built only around the combo. Gengar and Mimikyu GX are pure chaos and I love it. The weird and romping mixture of weirdness and romping makes it instantly memorable.
Losing thunder
Literally, the lost thunder sounds loud. It was Pokémon's largest product ever and it felt like it. The Lugia GX is still one of the favorite artworks of the Sun and Moon era that I have never had before. It's just that majestic, without my energy.
The Alolan Ninetales GX is back here, and it's as gorgeous and useful as the earlier versions. The Zeraora GX is one of that card, and just checking it should be faster. I've seen someone build the entire lightning deck around it and you can say they're more fun than they should be allowed.
Dragon je
Dragon Majesty dropped in September 2018, and the name alone attracted me. You say dragon, I will appear. Like the shiny legend, it is not available in booster boxes, only in special products such as pins and Premium Boxes, which makes the unpacking feel like a snack rather than regular. I never brought amazing luck to this set, but I still remember seeing someone pulling the golden Ultra Necrozma GX at a local event and everyone went crazy.
Dragonite GX is another outstanding figure and I have always loved the artwork without a doubt. The Reshiram GX and Salamence GX have smudged the heavy hitter, which looks like the biggest drama. I still want to add this set of shiny Charizard to my collection one day. It's shiny, it's Charizard, basically Pokémon cardboard royalty.
Celestial Storm
The celestial storm feels like there was one foot in the past, and there is one foot in the present. The Rayquaza GX is the biggest headline and I still remember the first time I saw someone dropping it in a game was absolutely resilient. Lisia's full art card is also a big one, with this bright pop music that makes it feel instantly ready to collect. The Articuno GX is also part of this set of scenes, and even though I never pulled one, I always liked its icy and grace. It has a quiet power.
Forbidden light
The light ban is very cool in Ultra Necrozma GX. I never pulled one myself, but I remember a kid showing it on league night and pumping so much that he forgot to put it in his sleeve. We solved it quickly. The Greninja GX is another person who is associated with me as it is one of the best starters in later generations. Diatha's full art card is also on this occasion, with a low-key aesthetic that makes it one of the better-looking coach cards.
Super prism
Ultra Prism is a turning point. Prism Star cards are a new concept and they add some real excitement to pull. I never pulled the full art Lily out of this set of scenes, but I used to watch one up close at a local binder trade conference and honestly, I wasn't even angry, it wasn't mine. It looks so good. Cynthia's Complete Art is another principal. I only saw one card in person during the game and I vowed to look at it for everyone next to me. Gold Solgaleo GX and Lunala GX are also in this set. I haven't seen it myself, but they've become the dream duo and I hope to find it at a good price one day.
Crimson invasion
The crimson invasion is softer in the hype, but there are still moments. Ultra Beast debuts and while they are a bit weird on the subject, I appreciate the chaos. I saw the Gyarados GX very early on and thought, yes, that's what Gyarados should look like. Fierce, sharp, a little dangerous. The full art lusamine and Olivia coaching card bring some much-needed talent to the scene, but it's not the best packaged experience I've completely had.
Shining legend
Shining Legends was released in October 2017 and felt a little different from the beginning. It's not part of the usual release lineup, but a special mini set. I never pulled anything wild from a few packages that I opened, but I did see someone hitting a shiny Mew on a cool night, which was cool. That card glows in some way, no scans or photos are actually captured. The Secret in Test Tube Rare Mewtwo GX I only see behind the glass next to the vendor's desk. Shining Rayquaza and Shining Arceus also stood out in the scene, and although I wasn't lucky enough to have it, I still occasionally check the list just in case the stars are aligned. The Shining Legend may be small, but the hit rate is great, which is one of the aging suits.
Burning shadows
The Burning Shadow appeared in August 2017, and honestly, this set of scenes will always be defined by one thing. Rainbow Rare Charizard GX, this is a nice eavesdropper. I did pull a Gardevoir GX, which was actually one of the top deck buildings of the time, and the secret rare fairy tale energy was amazing, but let's not pretend that those things helped to relieve the sting. That Charizard is still laughing at the back of the gradeboard from other people's collections.
Guardians rise
A few months after the Sun and Moon Base, the Guardians appeared, and this was when the Tapu Lele GX began to appear everywhere. I didn't pull one, but I remember watching someone get one from their third bag and just shrugging casually, like it wasn't one of the most playable cards at the time. That summer, I did see an Alolan Ninetales GX unfolding in a card show, and under those horrible elevated lights, I swear Holo is better than any right. Sylveon GX is another outstanding performance of the collection. This is one of the cards with their own fan base. Of course, that secret rare two-color energy is pure gold, but it's nice to see more of the epic Pokémon GX in the earlier Sun and Moon suits than the energy and coaching.
The sun and the moon
The Sun and Moon Base's setup dropped in early 2017, and honestly, it felt like the beginning of something new. Alolan form has weird hairstyles and bright colors, which I like very much. The GX Mechanic was new at the time and it was hard to get hit. I personally don't have many cards, but I remember seeing a complete work of art in someone's trade binder at my first real local event, which strangely reminded me of Misty's determination. Then someone pulled the secret rare superball in the same game and immediately made it two-way like a newborn. I only pulled out the regular Lunala GX from a random pack in the game store checkout and it even felt like a win. Those early GX cards had real existence. Not only do they shine, but they also look like they mean business. Probably because I am the only one who is not interested in gold commodity cards.
