With so many studios, Microsoft has the largest gaming franchise in the industry, if not the largest defender franchise. However, some of the numerous titles stand out. In an interview IGN JapanXbox owner Phil Spencer talks about some other topics.
Spencer pointed out in an interview that the highest title required by Microsoft Back-Catalog is Japan RPG Blue Dragon and Losing the Odysseyand the Western Champion Crimson sky and Mechassault.
Both Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey are RPGs, originally developed by Mistwalker, the studio is Final Fantasy Founder Hironobu Sakaguchi, formerly known as Square Enix. Blue Dragon is Mistwalker's first project and has a feature of Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball, Dragon Quest. Lost Odyssey, character design with Takehiko Inoue (Slam Dunk, Vagabond, Vagabond). Inoue is not as well known in the West as Toriyama, but neither of them is a Japanese fan in Japan, neither of them is equally large.
Meanwhile, both the crimson sky and Mechassault originated from the early days of the original Xbox, when Microsoft collaborated with Battletech, Shadowrun and others of the time. Crimson Sky is an action-flying game set in an alternative historical version of the 1930s America, where flying is the primary method of transportation and combat. Mechassault is an action shooter that contains Mechs from Battletech and is one of the first games to feature on Xbox Live.
As for whether we can see these titles come back, JRPG is more feasible, as Mistwalker is still an active studio and has two franchises. About Western titles, Windows Central Notes A few years ago, Microsoft added a crimson sky to its backward compatibility program, but didn't add Mechassault. So while both games seem to be tied together in a entitlement issue, TOPPS now owns the rights to FASA property – the Sky of Crimson is a much greater possibility.
In addition to discussing these most valuable franchises, Spencer talks about the option to set up the Forza Horizon 6 in Japan, the most needed environment in the series’ 13-year history, a “wonderful” terrain he attributed to the United States. He also briefly talked about Xbox's partnership with Japanese studios Ninja Gaiden 4 and The beast of reincarnationbut said he would let these teams talk about their projects.
