When I was asked to lead Bungie in 2015, my goal was to develop us into a studio that was able to create and sustain the iconic entertainment across generations. We’ve gone through a lot together: We built a bold new chapter for destiny, built an enviable independent live operations organization, able to create and publish our own games, and join the incredible family of Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Today marks a right time to start a new starting point. Bungie’s future will be mastered by a new generation of leaders and I’m pleased to announce that Justin Truman will be the leader of Bungie’s new studio leader.
Parsons oversees Bungie during many turbulent years, serving as CEO from Harold Ryan for the first time and oversees the 2019 Activision break. He has mastered our helmsman in many of our events. 2021 reveals Bungie’s internal work culture. Although those we spoke with reported that Bunge was especially toxic and hostile to women before Parsons was in charge, they also told IGN that Igni often reported problems and he was often slow or unwilling to act, or even meaningless in how to dominate among problem employees. Parsons apologized at the time, saying: “Our actions or in some cases have made these people suffer. I personally apologize to everyone in Bungie, and I know, I know, through these records, I feel deeply the feeling of sympathy and sadness.”
Just a few months after the report Sony acquired for $3.7 billionending the studio's flirting with independence. With the resolution of the acquisition, the future of Bungie has begun to attract attention. “Fate 2” is struggling, and the upcoming marathon is almost the same. In 2023, Bungie lays off about 100 people And postponed the final shape of Destiny 2 DLC, and Parsons was responsible for layoffs. The developer told IGN at the time Bungie's atmosphere is “shocking” With concerns about Sony's full acquisition of the company. In 2024, then More layoffsdespite the final shape success, this time it affected 220 people. At this time, 155 people were also included in Sony from Bungie. Trouble keep swinging studios until 2024 and 2025 Marathon sees delays in September this year to an unknown future date.
In this environment – Destiny 2 struggles, marathon delays, smaller employees and Sony looms, Parsons leaves the company. He left it to Justin Truman, who started working as a developer from Bungie 15 years ago, working on Destiny 1 and has since worked with the Chief Development Officer and now the studio leader.
When we are at our best – we work with you, our community of players to create these worlds and build something important. Worth your time, enthusiasm and investment in us. Hopefully I've learned too much.
I also participated in these efforts by Bungie when we might not be at our best. When we stumble upon and realize that we missed this mark by listening to the community. I know that over the years, I have learned a lot personally, like all of us here, from these conversations.
As we continue to pour our hearts and souls into these worlds, I am committed to supporting and working with every member of the team. The world we love, we hope it is worth your time and enthusiasm. Because in the end, these worlds only exist and flourish.
We are working hard now – whether it's a marathon or fate. We are currently declining, but we will show you more in both worlds later this year.
Per Bungie's Social Media PostsParsons is retired and does not seem to stay in the studio.
