Obsidian’s vice president of operations Marcus Morgan was called by IGN Live to discuss the Outer World 2 before the October 29 release date, which includes its favorite hockey planet, which has become his favorite, viscose pistol and more.
Morgan first shared that the sequel is digging into the RPG aspect and noted: “Obsidian is rooted in RPG. We want to go with the outside world.” He even uncomfortablely called Outer World 2 part rpg, part fps. Instead, he emphasized that he “only called it RPG.”
However, the team heard a lot of feedback, and fans wanted gunfights and battles to develop, so there will be a lot of new weapons to look forward to, including some based on science. Morgan also described “melee weapon, which amplifies damage if you hit it.” These new additions are designed to add to the experience while retaining the RPG core.
“One of my favorite weapons is the sticky gun pistol,” Morgan added while joking. “You take this biomass jar away and pour the sticky jar into the gun and throw the jar away.”
Morgan also wanted to let those who had never played the first outside world know that they wouldn't get lost in this sequel, noting: “We are moving to a brand new colony with a brand new character.” He described the Earth Bureau as “the organization you're involved in” and “the space ranger of the universe.
Morgan is also particularly excited about the flawed system of Outer World 2, which he says is a way to take the usual idea to upgrade and impose humor on it. For example, one of the flaws is the “Sunmania Flaw – If you stare at the sun for too long, you can get back to health, but the world will blur.” Another is for those who will never run out of ammo because you will cause more damage. But if you do let it fail, you will be punished with some damage.
As for the mentally ill person’s cheering up, Morgan said, “One of the great things in the outside world is that you can kill everyone and we bring it back to the outside world 2. If you do that, you get a revitalization too. Also, even if you kill the gift of the mission, you can complete the mission.” On the other hand, “You can be a pacifist if you choose. You can talk about your way throughout the game (without killing anyone). You have the entire spectrum.”
When it comes to errors, Morgan noted: “We are already in bug fix mode. This is probably the first way we were in that mode.”
In the new planet of Outer World 2, Morgan revealed: “One of my favorites is a planet called “The Cloister”. It's a huge hockey planet because there's a supercomputer trying to solve large computing.” He said the computer is connected to a group of religious fanatics in the game who think they can use mathematics to predict the future. In this case, supercomputers and huge energy (and the heat generated) are to be powered on the corridor to keep it cool.
Finally, Morgan mentions the stupid mode of the first game and how they leaned towards the choice of Outer World 2 again. They also integrate the conversation system into the title screen, and Morgan explains that when you load the game, you may hear the prompt that “you may hear ‘Hey, you seem to be dying often.
Outer World 2 will be released on October 29, 2025 It will be officially Microsoft's first $80 game.
