Onimusha: The way of swords will not be open world or soul-like, the director promises

The Onimusha series was created in a very different game era, and for decades it was all the rage before the open world titles and soul-like games. Next year, Capcom will be with onimusha: The way of swordAnd, the game's director Satoru Nihei hopes fans know that he and his team won't embrace those modern trends in the title.
“Sword: The way of sword is not an open world game, and it certainly isn't a punitive (soul-like) game,” Nihei told Automatic. “There is no doubt that experienced action gamers will be able to enjoy it, but our goal is to make a gamer, and those who don’t consider action games will have fun. In Sword, our main focus is to express the conflict of blades through actions.”
Nihel went on to explain that the sword’s way is integrating new mechanisms to make the sword fight more realistic. Deflection allows the player to exhaust the boss's stamina, which will eventually allow the character to trigger a broken Issen attack and destroy a portion of the boss. Nihel also confirmed that the soul absorption capacity will remain in the new game.
Producer Akihito Kadowaki recently told Gamespot that the sword's way is There is absolutely no connection to previous Onimusha games. Instead, the player will control Mushashi, a samurai warrior whose similarities are based on the late actor Toshiro Mifune.
