Octopus Traveler 0: Trailer, Release Date and What We Know About Square-Enix’s New JRPG

Recently, RPG-based RPGs have risen interest – and there doesn't seem to be enough space for new big names to soothe aspiring fans of desire. Thankfully, for those who are eager for some of the best fights of JRPGs, Square-Enix has a brand new piece in its popular Octopus Traveler series, which is scheduled to be released on Consoles and PC this December. Don't worry, longing for adventurers – we have all the information about OT0 here, including release details, trailers and game details so you can prepare for your adventure.

When will the Octopus Traveler release?

Thankfully, you don't have to wait too long to get a lot of round-based JRPG beauty. As in Nintendo direct companion displayOctopath Traveler 0 will be released on December 4, 2025 – giving you plenty of time during holiday breaks to dig deeper into what can be a long adventure.

Octopus Traveler 0 will be available digitally in the Standard and Digital Deluxe Edition. The standard version will be $49.99 and will be available both physically and digitally. You can buy physical versions of the Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox series Amazon.

Digital Deluxe Edition (including digital art books, three starting action tips (three strikes), SC Saver Master and Extra JP Mastery), as well as additional consumable combat items and special decor in your town, are available for download with a storefront and retail for $59.99.

The Physics Collection Edition, including all the digital luxury extras, and a range of physical supplies shown below in a large collection box, are available Specialized on the Square Enix online store, priced at $229.99.

All bookings for all octopus travelers include a “Travel Supply” project set with five healing grapes (M), five inspiring plums (M), two rejuvenating jams and Icewind mastery of action skills.

With OT0's Nintendo Direct Reles, trailers and game clips were performed. As we can see, the game still has its trademark HD-2D visuals and a battle based on strategic turn. A brief display of some interesting new members, including a glimpse of the game's Town Reconstruction Mechanic and character creation.

Octopus Traveler 0 will be available on most current platforms: Xbox series, PlayStation 4 and 5, Switch and Switch 2, and PC.

Octopus Traveler 0 layers, settings and characters

Octopus Traveler 0 is loose based on mobile games Octopus Traveler: Continental Champion. It happens on Orsterra, the same as COTC and the original octopus traveler. On the day of the veneration ceremony in Wishvale, the city is attacked and razed to the ground, allowing the characters you create both the task of rebuilding and seeking revenge.

The reveal trailer introduces some story characters: Stia, an architect who is a childhood friend of the player's character; Phenn, the alert hunter; and Laurana, the priest. Square Enix claims there will be more than 30 playable characters in total, and they all have some unique abilities. Further characteristics indicate that include Sels of the thief, Alexia, Ludo, Viator of the warrior and Messi Messi. Opponents who have been revealed so far include Heminia, the coveted witch; Tytos, the hero; and August, the playwright.

Octopus Traveler 0 gameplay

Octopath Traveler 0 inherits most of the freestyle exploration gameplay from the previous title. From start to finish, you don't set up a linear route, although some areas may be easier than others depending on your party composition, skills, and equipment. You will be able to interact with the NPC through various character-specific path actions (such as requesting (requesting the NPC to give you a project) and query (pressing the NPC to provide more information). One of the new path actions we know in the game is invitation, which allows you to try to bring the NPC to your town.

Enemy encounters occur randomly in certain areas, although there are some visible encounters on the map – including challenging elite enemies, which require some extra power and strategy to dismantle.

Octopus Traveler 0 Battle

Like the original Octopus Traveler and Its sequelOctopath Traveler 0 has turn-based combat, and your goal is to strategically target enemy weaknesses to break down its “shield”. When their shield reaches 0, they enter a weak hit state, which gives you a major chance of a big attack. You can also choose to use enhancements during character turns to improve their skill efficiency. What makes OT0's battles unique is that up to eight characters can be added, higher than four characters in OT and OT2. The front row characters are active in the battle, while the rear row teams offer various improvements. You can also switch characters between lines in battle, thus opening up new strategies. New features of Octopus Traveler 0

Octopus Traveler 0 introduces some new mechanics. One such new element is town building that you will use to rebuild Wishdale. In this mode, you will use materials to place and build the structure. While playing the game, you can recruit characters that will be rebuilt in various ways, such as staffing facilities. You can also upgrade these facilities through tasks. How character creation works in Octopus Traveler 0

Since all of its characters are drawn in 2D pixel art, character creation in Octopus Traveler 0 is somewhat different from many of the 3D titles that offer this feature. You will be able to choose basic gender, small facial details (eye appearance and color), hairstyle and hair color, skin tone, victory/action posture, sound and name. From the trailer, you can also choose a skill to start learning (probably similar to Hikari's mechanic Octopus Traveler II), start working, favorite food (can provide specific statistical improvements) and start gear.
