Nintendo announces Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch 2 version, along with free update for base game

Nintendo brought Animal Crossing: New Horizons Get back on top with the Switch 2 version and free updates to the base game.
Nintendo says both games will launch on January 15, 2026, and will be available for pre-order soon.

With enhanced resolution, mouse control using Joy-Con 2 controllers, expanded online play, and more features exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2, players can fully experience island life in Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Switch 2 Edition!
In addition, “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” will soon launch a free update for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch players to enjoy. Free updates include new resort hotels, additional amiibo features, collaborative projects, online game updates, and more.
We can’t wait for you to see everything new on the island on January 15, 2026!
Nintendo Switch 2 players who have already played “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” on Nintendo Switch can upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 version by purchasing an upgrade pack.
Even though Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the second-best-selling game on the Switch, with 48.19 million copies sold, most fans have accepted that Nintendo has left Animal Crossing: New Horizons behind. Animal Crossing: New Horizons launched in March 2020 and benefited from lockdown-driven play at home, but Nintendo has failed to capitalize on its popularity with significant DLC over the past five years.
