Mortal Kombat 2 release date moved up, but not by much

The Mortal Kombat movie sequel has a new release date, and it's been moved up by a week. New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. have announced that “Mortal Kombat 2” will be released on May 8, 2026. based on deadlineone week away from its previously announced release date of May 15, 2026.
“Mortal Kombat 2” will be released a week ahead of Mother's Day weekend in the United States. It will now also be released on the same day as Amazon-MGM Studios' Sheep Detective .
Mortal Kombat 2's new date is slightly earlier, but still much later than expected. New Line Cinema was originally scheduled to release the film on October 24, 2025, but it was later delayed by more than seven months to May 2026.
New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. had a successful month of May, with “Death: Bloodline” setting a franchise record when it was released in May. Reporting deadline Mortal Kombat 2's “research screenings” have been “strong, with New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. changing dates to help it attract as many viewers and make as much money as possible.

At this month's New York Comic Con, Warner Bros. announced that it has Approval for Mortal Kombat 3.
