NVIDIA announces adding its RTX hairstyle feature Indiana Jones and the Big Circle September 4. In short, the RTX hairstyle uses disjoint orthogonal triangle bands (dots) to improve lighting and shadows of video game hair, which NVIDIA says is a solution that doesn't require a lot of extra memory, rather than using triangles to render each frame.
By using linear scanning balls, hair looks more realistic because the geometry is round, so it becomes easier to avoid self-intervention when casting shadows and reflecting light. This will allow Harrison Ford to play more full hair in Indiana Jones game Digital Doppelganger as the update for real-time path-tracking mode arrives next month. This feature will be used for RTX-50 series GPUs, earlier this year Nvidia added This is an “important step towards high-quality digital humanity” taken in real time.
For years, hair and related elements that can be accurately rendered in video games were one of the more challenging things. Fortunately, over the years, you've made great strides with video game characters, from having static meat spots, or the buzz of many protagonists throughout the 2000s and early 2010s, or actually moving hair during the game.
Indiana Jones and The Great Circle launched the PC and Xbox series X|S–And in April 2025 for PS5– September will see its expansion, The order of giants. DLC will see Dr. Jones embark on an expedition to reveal the secrets of Nephilim's orders.
