Halloween game sounds like a serial killer

Cult filmmaker John Carpenter seems to have spent a moment in Gamescom 2025. Toxic CommandoSaber Interactive's interesting evolution of zombie collaboration FPS, but his sci-fi horror, things are also key effects to come Instruction 8020. First, during the show, the previously announced Halloween was based on the horror classic, with Carpenter himself as executive producer, with the first trailer, announcing that the Slasher horror classic Halloween, which he defined as a game, would become an executive producer, Carpenter himself as executive producer.
Given that it was developed by Illfonic, the studios of other licensed horror or horror horror games, such as the Klowns, the killer of Outer Space, Predator and Ghostbusters, collaborating with gun media, Compass International Pictures and further ahead, it would be no surprise that it would be a surprise as it will learn that this will include non-object multiple graduates. But it will not only be Friday, the 13th: the game switches Jason Vorhees to Michael Myers. First, the announcement confirms that Halloween will be a single player and a multiplayer horror experience.
Although Friday, the 13th does have single player content, these are essentially challenging tasks without narratives. He sat down with design director Jordan Mathewson, who explained that it was a story mode experience, which is working with Pollard Studio, the Shanghai studio behind Karma: Dark World. “It does have narrative and film components that can really bring a lot of story and explore what it is doing,” he said. “But we’ve also been building a lot of things and in a way that allows us to build a different experience than multiplayer and let you have a completely different game of this type.”
Unfortunately, there is no further reveal of the gameplay (even behind closed doors) besides the announcement trailer, so it is too early to have a clear look at the expectations of Halloween Story Mode, among other things, it will put you in the boots and Michael Myers’ mask. But from what I could learn from Matthewson, it sounds like a serial killer.
Since Halloween will use the 1978 movie as a blueprint, it means the environment is located in the sleepy countryside and suburbs of Hardenfield, Illinois. “All the decorations, characters, clothes were from the 1970s,” he explained. “It’s a lot of fun to explore what that means, and everything that comes with having this technology when actually making a single player is a big part of it when it comes to actually making a single player game.”

While Haddonfield might think of the iconic suburban community, its rooted and familiar setting is to raise the horror movie when a terrible killer relaxes, Matthewson also assured me that there will be a variety of maps beyond that community. “Throughout the movie, you’ll also see more about Haddonfield and make sure there are different types of maps with different sizes and different types of game styles, so when you set them on these different maps, it really can experience different experiences.”
It sounds like the big sandbox map is slower for Halloween, and stealth-based gameplay is crucial. Although Friday the 13th boils down to Jason's attempt to kill as many counselors as possible within a time limit, Halloween's Haddonfield is not only a map, but also simulates the suburbs of the 70s, so there are plenty of NPCs doing their own routines in their own daily activities on Halloween night. Twisting is what any of them can be Miles’ goal.
This is where Agent 47 works more, because Miles needs to stay on his time, observe the NPC, stay in the shadows until the moment of chance of killing comes. This means that other players’ goal is not to be targets trying to escape, but to prevent the massacre by rescuing targeted town residents, such as persuading them to leave their homes.

“It's very sneaky on both sides because Michael certainly doesn't want to be seen, and he has a more methodical approach, but civilians obviously try to stay out of sight until they have the ability to try to hit him.” Just like assassinating a target in the open might make you follow you in the killer, so Michael's massacre would be even more difficult if Michael's massacre gave up. Civilian players may also be upgraded. “You can try to call the police and convince them that there is a murderer. If the police come to investigate and start looking for evidence, they will increasingly bring more difficult challenges to Michael. He is very powerful, but at the same time, authorities will challenge him.”
But, without seeing this, I can't portray it in my mind. Will bogey be seriously intimidated by a bunch of small town police? If Michael Myers is a shocking presence, I can't imagine his stealth choice would involve squatting in the bush, but if not, how could he keep his sneakyness? Given that the game only sticks to the 1978 film, which is arguably his most solid description, would that limit the strength he will have when facing other players and other players in town?
Alas, these details will have to wait for Illfonic to reveal later. Still, Matthewson assured me that the studio has been doing a lot of research and working directly with IP Holder Compass to explore Michael’s true abilities. “It retains this rooted nature because it could have existed in a reality where you feel vulnerable and feel like you’re in a familiar environment,” he said. “It’s really fun to explore one side of it and make sure we stick with it, but then it can also go back to Michael’s point of view and in a way that makes it a really fun, fun, powerful experience.”
Halloween will be coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox series X|S in 2026.
