GTA 6 postponed to May 2026

Rockstar postponed Big Theft Automatic 6 By May 26, 2026. It will set off in autumn 2025.

Rockstar apologized in a statement for the game's major delay, which will be the largest entertainment launch ever.

“We are so sorry, it’s later than you expected,” said Roxtar. “The interest and excitement around the new theft has really frustrated our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and patience when you finish the game.

“In every race we release, the goal is always to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We want you to understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.

“We look forward to sharing more information with you as soon as possible.”

Rockstar's statement confirmed at least the release date for GTA 6, but did not release new assets, which means waiting for Trailer 2 is still continuing. There is no mention of the launch platform, and some have already speculated that the launch platform has enabled the release of GTA 6 on PC and the PlayStation 5 and Xbox series X and S in May 2026.

“Look, there's always a risk of slipping, I think, once you say something, you're like that, you're your words,” Strauss Zelnick, owner of the parent company of the rock star, said. Ign. “So we feel very good about it.” It was in February.

Commenting on a new note from the Investment Community released today, Zelnick said he supports the decision to postpone GTA 6 to Take-Two’s fiscal 2027.

“We support a comprehensive rock star game and spend more time realizing their creative vision of Grand Theft Auto VI, which promises to be a breakthrough, sensational entertainment experience that exceeds audience expectations.

“While we take our title seriously and appreciate the huge and profound expectations of the Great Theft Automatic VI around the world, we remain firmly committed to a commitment to excellence. As we continue to release our amazing pipeline, we expect to grow for our business for years and enhance our value to shareholders.”

The delay in GTA 6 will open many other games in the second half of 2025, and there may be more room for success now. No one would doubt Gearbox's Borderlands 4, EA's Battlefield, Bungie's Marathon, and Sony's Yotei Ghost. Nintendo, ready to release Switch 2, will certainly benefit from the GTA 6 delay, too.

Of course, other developers and publishers may be anxious to launch the game before the GTA 6 Fall 2025 release window, which is certainly not that happy. And, if you plan to launch the game around May next year, you may have to rethink your release strategy.
