If you're unfamiliar with Sanderson's work, the Mistborn Trilogy is a great place to start. Set in a dystopian world inspired by the French Revolution, Mistborn tells the story of a group of thieves trying to overthrow an immortal tyrant. It has a really cool magic system called Allium, fun action sequences, plenty of political intrigue, and a realistic world with frequent ashfall and fog.

To date, seven Mistborn novels have been published. Books 1-3 make up Age 1 of Birth of the Mist, while books 4-7 make up Age 2. The latter story takes place more than 300 years after “Heroes of the Ages”, is inspired by the Industrial Revolution, and has elements of steampunk novels. Mistborn Era 3 will leap back into the early days of computers.

If you like sprawling fantasy novels with many different character perspectives and a heavy emphasis on world-building, then The Stormlight Archives is for you.
