Gearbox says the highly-anticipated Borderlands 4 patch that will finally blunt the critical strike knife build has been delayed again and will now launch alongside the Terror of Kairos mini-event.
Borderlands 4's “Day 30 Update” was originally scheduled to be released last week, but postponed to early this week. Fans are wondering when it will appear after being absent again today, prompting developer Gearbox to say it will now launch alongside Terror of Kairos, which airs from October 23 to November 6.
“Glad you're excited about the update!” Gearbox posts on social media responding to questions about patch. “We're putting something together now that will launch alongside the Kairos Horror mini-event. We can't wait for you to see what we've got brewing.”
The question now is when exactly the patch will be released. The Terror of Kairos will begin on October 23rd, but will likely end up releasing at some point between that time and November 6th.
last week, Gearbox developers address grievances Borderlands 4 Players questioning the need to nerf overly strong builds in single-player looter shootersexpressed the need to retain challenges and encourage building “diversity”.
Players have been bracing for the end of builds that relied on what the community calls “crit knives.” Gearbox says 'unexpected interactions' will be nerfed With this upcoming patch.
Borderlands 4 Filled with powerful builds that deal massive damage, even against the hardest bosses in the game. The most notorious of these is the crit knife, Gearbox says it knows. But there is there are many others.
Borderlands 4's impending nerfs have sparked a debate within the gaming community about the rights and wrongs of balance changes such as single-player. Borderlands 4 has no PvP content, and is primarily about the solo player, with the occasional group of co-op players farming bosses for loot, making their builds better every time.

For example, a critical strike knife-based build can essentially delete bosses on even Borderlands 4's hardest difficulty, making farming for loot a breeze. Some people see nothing wrong with this kind of over-the-top gaming because players are not competing with others in any way. Others think it's bad for the game.
Borderlands 4 creative director Graeme Timmins responded to the complaints, pointing to the game's upcoming invincible boss, which the developer hopes to challenge.
“We have future content, such as the upcoming Invincible, where we hope players will find challenge/achievement,” Timmins explains. “If we balance content for bad gear, it removes build diversity and forces players into a specific build with said gear.”
When it comes to the critical strike knife specifically, deputy creative director Grant Kao said that this particular, very popular build “reduces the diversity of playstyles” and confirmed that changes are planned.
“We will adjust it,” as you said. “The critical damage potential of the crit knife reduces the variety of playstyles. There are other options for firearms that use the crit knife, and more will be available soon.”
Timmins then chimed in about the crit knife, explain: “Our intention has always been to scale build numbers, so any adjustments we make are geared toward that goal.”
Now, all eyes are on Gearbox to see what changes it makes not only to Borderlands 4's critical strike knife builds, but also to any builds it deems to rely on “unexpected interactions.”
Earlier this month, Gearbox revealed Borderlands 4 Bounty Pack 1: How Rush Saved Mercenary Day, the game's first seasonal mini-event, and the aforementioned Invincible Boss, etc. last month, Gearbox reveals the first of two new Vault Hunters in Borderlands 4 will be coming to the game as part of the paid Story Pack DLC. Set to launch in Q1 2026, C4SH is a playable character whose luck-based abilities can make him the best or worst character in the game.
We have more information about Borderlands 4. last month, Borderlands 4 data miners have uncovered evidence that one of Borderlands 3's most hated characters was removed and replaced relatively late in development. 2K Games and Gearbox declined to comment when contacted by IGN.
We recently reported on comments from Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, who said that if more developers better understood why players enjoyed making decisions about loot, “we would have great competitors.”
