Lieutenant Titus from star warrior 2 With the huge success of the video game, he has become one of the most recognizable faces in Warhammer 40,000. We've already seen Games Workshop double down on merchandise for the Ultramarines hero, appearing in the Amazon animated anthology Warhammer 40,000 episode “Secret Levels” and making various cameos throughout. But now things have escalated – not just Titus as a Space Marine, but his place in the ongoing Warhammer 40,000 narrative.
This week, Games Workshop revealed Captain Demetrion Titus, the “Master of the Watch,” meaning Titus gets a well-deserved promotion since the classic campaigns of Starfighter 2 and Secret Levels. Titus once again serves as Captain of the 2nd Company of the Ultramarines, a position he had held before he was detained by the Inquisition for alleged heresy following the events of the first Space Marine game. What does Titus' promotion mean for Sevastus Acheran, the former Captain and Watch Commander of the 2nd Company we see in Starfighter 2? Let's face it: He's probably dead. I guess he couldn't spare enough men.
For Titus, his ascension came with greater, more daunting responsibilities: He was put in charge of defending the Five Hundred Worlds of Ultramar, the realm of the Space Marine poster boys, the Ultramarines. With Primarch Roboute Guilliman leaving his Indomitus Crusade, Titus was now charged with keeping his homeworld safe, where new Necron threats emerged as always.
Games Workshop has released a new trailer below to hype up this narrative expansion, which features Titus as the protagonist, taking on his new position and what he calls an “impossible mission.” He's had a dramatic look since we last saw him, and he's got a cool new model to play in the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop game. Titus is joined by friends familiar to his fans: Ancient Gadriel from Starfighter 2 and Veteran Metarus from Secret Levels (he's still alive!).
500 Worlds: Titus is the name of the next major narrative expansion for Warhammer 40,000. According to the post Warhammer Communitywhich includes a set of four books that will tell the story of the Ultramarines' reconquest and embattled Vespato Front, where Titus and the Ultramarines 2nd Company are “trapped in a desperate struggle against an undead force imbued with the Destroyer's Curse.”
This is a huge moment for Titus, but also for the Space Marine video game series. It's a testament to the character's importance to Warhammer 40,000, and the huge impact Space Marine 2 has had on the setting.
Interview with IGN at Gamescom 2025Tim Willits, head of development at Saber Interactive, said the popularity of Space Marine 2 has opened the door to Warhammer 40,000's terrifyingly dark setting to a new group of fans who don't necessarily understand the intricacies of the universe.
“I've heard a lot of people now think that the Thousand Sons are the only Chaos faction because that's what we have in the game,” Willetts said, looking back on Starfighter 2's first year.
“So people would say, 'Oh, I guess the Thousand Sons, they're Chaos.'” Like, “That's not actually the case.” They're really just a small faction. But people were like, 'This is my opponent. '”
This assumption about Chaos extends to the Space Marines themselves. The Ultramaines (the chapter Games Workshop itself uses when introducing new players to the tabletop game through starter sets) are the protagonists of Starfighter 2's campaign, although there are many other factions that can be played in both PvE and PvP modes.
“People's assumptions about the Warhammer 40,000 universe are incorrect,” Willetts continued. “It's like the Thousand Sons are the only Chaos faction. It's kind of humorous. It's like, 'Oh, the Space Marines are only blue!' Honestly, it's pretty humorous, and it's good for us.”
One of the big questions already confirmed for Space Marine 3 is whether Saber will venture beyond the Ultramarines and Thousand Sons in the next campaign. The story seems to set up the inclusion of the Necron, which probably won't be too surprising for Space Marine 3 . But will other Space Marine chapters appear? Maybe the same goes for other Chaos factions? We asked Willetts about Starfighter 3, but he remained tight-lipped.
But now that Titus is firmly back, we can't help but wonder what the overly suspicious Reverend Leandros was thinking? In Space Marine 2, he spends almost the entirety of Space Marine 2 threatening to end poor Titus at the first sign of corruption, and even after Titus performs heroic deeds, receives praise from Chapter Master Marnius Calgar, and what some believe to be words of encouragement from the Emperor himself, Leandros remains unconvinced. If Titus can complete the impossible task of defending 500 worlds, can he finally win over Leandros? Somehow I doubt it.
All of this may be incorporated into Starfighter 3 in some way. Assuming Starfighter 3 picks up after the events of World 500, we'll likely see Titus leading an army into battle rather than a small squad.
