Battle Arena Toshinden, the 3D fighting game series from the PlayStation 1 era, is about to be re-released. Tokyo-based publishing company Edia announced today that Toshinden 1, Toshinden 2 and Toshinden 3 will be released on current-gen consoles in 2026-2027.
“Battle Arena Toshinden” was originally released in 1995 as a PS1 game in the United States and PAL regions. It was also the first 3D fighting game to be released on Sony's first console. Its initial roster consists of eight playable characters, featuring weapon-based combat and turn-based combat, elements that the Soul Calibur/Soul Calibur series emerged a year ago and builds upon.
According to Aditya's Press releaseas part of a licensing agreement with Takara Tomy, the company plans to re-release the PS1 versions of Battle Arena Toshiden 1, 2, and 3 on current-generation consoles to commemorate the series' 30th anniversary.
“We will bring this popular series… to retro gaming fans around the world in a high-quality re-release,” the company announced. Edia emphasized that it will use its experience in porting games to deliver re-releases for modern consoles that meet fan expectations.
It has not yet been revealed which platforms will get this piece of fighting game history, with Edia Corp set to further announce the lineup once details are finalized.
