Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8 and Final Fantasy 9 are finally coming to physical Switch in the US

If you want to complete your physical collection of Final Fantasy on Switch, here's good news – Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII Remake: Double Pack and final fantasy 9 The physical Switch version is finally launching in North America. The products originally launched in Japan and Europe a few years ago, but American fans have been purchasing digital versions on the eShop. While you can import and play physical versions from other regions thanks to the Switch's region-free hardware, these new US versions will (hopefully) be easier to find when they launch on December 9th. Both games are available for pre-order now on Amazon for $40 each. While no pre-order bonuses have been announced yet, it's still worth picking up an early copy, as physical Final Fantasy Switch versions tend to be extremely popular.

As the title suggests, Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII Remake: Double Pack includes high-definition ports of the PS1 versions of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII Remake. Both games appear to be included on cartridges.

The physical version of “Final Fantasy IX” includes a high-definition cartridge of the original “Final Fantasy IX”.
All three games offer the same core experience as the original PS1 RPG, but with HD graphics and higher-resolution presentation. Final Fantasy VIII Remake specifically features new character models that are more detailed than the PS1's – though they're still similar to the art direction of the PS1's 3D models and use original animations, so it's not a huge Change. All three games also feature optional toggles that turn off random encounters, make your character invincible, and more. While these are Switch games, you can of course play them on the Switch 2 as well.
With the launch of the new Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII Remake: Double Pack and physical copies of Final Fantasy IX, it's now possible to get physical copies of nearly every mainline Final Fantasy game on Switch, as well as some of the best spin-offs. The first six entries in the series are included in Final Fantasy I-VI Series Anniversary Editionthe Switch version is priced at $69 (originally $75). Pixel remasters of these games retain the classic 2D gameplay of NES and SNES RPGs, but feature new pixel art (instead of the ugly redrawn sprites seen in the mobile re-releases a few years ago), as well as other tweaks such as the ability to use original chiptune or newly choreographed versions, selectable combat speed and difficulty settings, and more.
For subsequent entries in the series, there are Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remastered Editionwhich includes Final Fantasy X and its sequel Final Fantasy X-2. These editions feature upgraded graphics, a carefully choreographed soundtrack, and additional content from the international versions of both games, including the roguelike mystery dungeon-style bonus game FFX-2: Last Mission. The series also includes the CG short film Final Fantasy X: Eternal Calm, which connects X and X-2, and the audio drama Final Fantasy X: Will. The Switch version is only $25 (originally $50).

Final Fantasy XII is available on the Nintendo handheld via the Final Fantasy XII: Zodiac Age version. The re-release of the PS2 RPG includes similar features to many other Final Fantasy remasters, including upgraded graphics, a remastered soundtrack, and combat speed modifiers, as well as all of the bonus content and gameplay changes from the PS2 International version not included in the US version, including the excellent new job system that adds welcome variety to the way you build your party. you can grab Switch version of “Final Fantasy 12: Zodiac Age” $25 (originally $50). This version includes the option to use original PS1 graphics, or a new remastered version with higher resolution graphics, voice dialogue, an overhauled UI, and other changes. The Switch version is available as an Amazon-exclusive physical copy for $50, which includes the game and an extra fold-out poster, as well as a free Switch 2 upgrade.

This leaves Final Fantasy XI Online, Final Fantasy XIV Online, the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy, Final Fantasy XV, and Final Fantasy XVI as the final numbered entries in the series to be unplayable on the Nintendo handheld. However, there are still some big Final Fantasy releases coming for Switch 2.
