Everything we know about Netflix's upcoming Bioshock movie

We haven't even seen the trailer for this movie yet, and Netflix hasn't announced a release date yet.
Who is directing the movie “Bioshock”?

Previously, a bioshock film led by the pirate of the Caribbean, Gore Verbinski, was scheduled to be released in 2011, aiming to be released with the release Bioshock Infinite (After multiple delays, it was not released until 2013). The film will be R rated and produced by Universal and is in progress Concept art with the project Share online. But by August 2009, it was announced Verbinski leaves him as director Due to budgetary issues, including the cost of shooting overseas. Since then, until Netflix announced in 2022 that it would be a BioShock movie, which will be a Netflix exclusive film directed by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games), written by Michael Green (Blade Runner 2049). Green was later replaced by Justin Rhodes (Terminator: Dark Fate, Secret Level), who is re-promoting Green's original script.
Production Scaling
Until July 2024, it was announced that the film was still in production, but its creators are now working on a massively expanded budget. At San Diego Comic Con that year, producer Roy Lee explained that the project had been “reconfigured” to become a “more personal” film. According to Lee, the budget reduction was the result of regime change, with Dan Lin replacing Scott Stuber as Netflix’s film owner.
“The new system lowers the budget,” Lee Said in an interview. “So we’re doing a smaller version…it’s going to be a more personal perspective, not a grander big project.”
Biochemical movie plot details

There is little detail when it comes to the plot of the movie, but it seems Lawrence, Rhodes and Lee are filming for the 2007 Bioshock game. It's hard to imagine how filmmakers would bring the Undersea Carnival City to life with a reduced budget, especially given the fact that when Yerbinski was leading the production, the film's budget was estimated to be in the $200 million range.
But despite the budget cut, Lawrence seems to be confident in the future of the film, although production certainly has obstacles to overcome.
Lawrence said in one: “It's a tricky adaptation.” Interview in May 2025. “Honestly, I think we’re in a good place.”
Who starred in the “Bioshock” movie?
The film is still in its early stages of production, with no official show announcement yet, but that hasn't stopped some celebrities from throwing their hats into the ring. March 2025, Boy Star Jack Quaid expresses interest in the movierevealing him as a “huge video game nerd” in Reddit Ama, his preference for FromSoftware games and his passion for BioShock.
“I beat Blood and then beat Secchiro, and now I put the full boar into the Elden ring,” Quayed wrote. “In fact, what I use most is the skills and tricks of defeating the boss from Soft.”
When asked what his “dream character” is Quaid answer“I actually would love to be a live-action adaptation of BioShock, one of my favorite games of all time. I think the game has such a wealth of knowledge to explore in a TV or movie adaptation.”
Quaid does seem to be a perfect fit for the character—he even shares the name with the protagonist of BioShock, but despite his enthusiasm, Netflix has not revealed whether Quaid will join the cast, nor has it shared any other details about which actor (if any) (if any) signing the character in the movie.
The future of biochemical odd and even
As for the BioShock series, 2K's Cloud Chamber Studios is developing the next BioShock title. But like this movie, the next BioShock game is still in the early stages of production. We know nothing about this except Bioshock series creator Ken Levine is definitely no Involvedbecause he is currently working on JudasThis is a science fiction first-person shooter developed by Levine's new studio, Ghost Story Games.
