IGN learned that Electronic Arts is canceling its planned Black Panther game and closing the developer Cliffhanger game.
These changes, along with other recent cancellations and layoffs, are also “promoting our focus and putting our creativity under the most important growth opportunities,” Miele said in an email to employees to EA Entertainment President Laura Miele.
In addition to closing Cliffhanger and canceling Black Panther, EA has assigned some people in its mobile and central teams. EA declined to comment when asked to provide the exact number of people affected. IGN understands that the total number of affected individuals in this wave is less than There were about 300 characters last month On the fan care team of Rebirth and EA – but not sure how much is.
“These decisions are tough,” Mill wrote. “They affect the people we work with, learn and share real moments. We are doing everything we can to support them, including finding opportunities within the EA, and we have successfully helped people play new roles.”
Like past layoffs, EA is working to include affected individuals in other roles in the company. The company has taken advantage of the placement program in recent years with each round of layoffs, and although EA appears to have increased the number of employees on other teams at the same time, it is still possible to lay off employees. Reports for each game fileEA has employed 800 employees as of March this year, more than in 2024.
For this, Miele's email continues, and the company will focus on a handful of franchises: Battlefield, The Sims, Skateboarding and Apex Legends. Miele also guarantees EA will continue to invest in Motive and The Star Wars: Jedi Games, and despite today’s cuts, BioWare can also maintain its mobile business on the next mass effect. Additionally, last year, CEO Andrew Wilson Announced that the company will be “We don’t think we don’t think that future licensed IP developments will be successful in a changing industry.”
The email does not mention EA Sports, but this is due to Miele running EA Entertainment, which is a separate department. IGN understands that the Ministry of Sports is currently unaffected by these changes.
It is worth noting that Marvel and EA's agreement with Black Panther is part of three deals, including Iron Man and One third of unnotified titles. Black Panther has barely shown so far since its announcement in 2023, although we know from the work list This is a single-player, action-adventure, open world game. Black Panther was developed by the newly built, now closed Cliff Game, Founded in 2023 With some former Earth developers: Mordor's Shadow and Leaded by Kevin Stephens.
In the past few years, especially in 2025, these cuts followed several other layoffs and cancellations by EA. Just last month, EA Put down about 300 peopleinclude Rebirth about 100, canceling the development of Giant Game and another incubation project. Earlier this year, EA reorganized BioWare, Move some developers to other projects and Liberate others. In 2024, EA underwent a large-scale restructuring, resulting in 670 workers Across the company, including There were about twelve workers at the time of rebirth. In 2023 BioWare lays off 50 jobs And one Cropping numbers in Codemasters unknown.
Meanwhile, EA recently implemented Mandatory return of all workers Some employees told IGN the move has left many currently remote workers concerned about what will happen to their long-term roles.
EA IGN returns to Miele's email when asked about the exact number of impacts, the reasons for these repeated cuts, or if more cuts are expected in the near future. Marvel has not responded to IGN's request for comment.
