Death Stranding is a polarized game when it was first released, But for the upcoming sequelpreviews of the game and early reviews are largely positive. In a recent interview, game director hideo kojima explained how he was happy to see the test audience's response to death 2: The beach is more favorable, but he also explained how this made him feel ambivalent.
“Sure, Sony is happy, but I do wish I was more controversial,” Kaugema told Edge Magazine (by VGC). “A sensational movie requires 80% approval rate – I don't want to make games like this. I'm not interested in games that attract mass markets or sell millions of copies. That's not my goal.”
Kojima does acknowledge the paradox of this approach, because while he may not intend to call for a wider gaming market, if he wants to keep the lights on Kojima Productions and pay for the lights of his employees, Deathing Stranding 2 still needs to sell a considerable number of units. Another benefit of comments being allocated on the game is that it allows developers like Kojima to accept constructive criticism and implement improvements in the base game and potential sequels. Meanwhile, Kojima said he would not change the theme or story based on player feedback.
Kojima added that his vision is single in response to feedback. “If the controls need to be adjusted or the camera pan is too slow or too fast, I do listen to the criticism.” However, Kojima added: “I don’t change the subject or story based on feedback. Of course, I want people to play my games, so I have to listen to them to a certain extent.” He is talking about Edge, as reported GamesRadar.
He added: “I’m not interested in making something that appeals to everyone.”
