Battlefield 6's battle royale mode may get Shadowdrop next week

Battlefield Studios has confirmed that it is developing a battle royale mode, but has yet to reveal specific details, including whether it will be free or paid. This isn't the first Shadowdrop for a battle royale game, as EA released Apex Legends back in February 2019 without much promotion before its release.

EA tried its hand at a Battle Royale game a few years ago; Battlefield V's Firestorm mode in 2019. However, this model didn't exactly catch on. The new Battlefield 6 battle royale mode will compete with games such as Fortnite, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, and Call of Duty: Warzone.

EA has been testing Battlefield 6's battle royale mode with the Battlefield Labs testing community. The developer just recently outlined some changes coming to the battle royale. These include (As EA writes):

• Close range TTK: We've adjusted close-range kill times for all weapons to reward clean targeting and tracking while giving players more time to counterattack. Once online, we will continue to monitor.
• Armor changes: Now, everyone can start the game with 2 armor plates. All players spawn with 1 plate, so you have a chance to level up as soon as you start looting, giving everyone an equal chance to fully upgrade their armor.
• World improvements: We're always fixing annoying world bugs and optimizing areas to improve the environment. With these improvements, we've made adjustments to lighting and enhanced visibility across the map.
• Vehicle balance: We've tweaked the balance of helicopters and tanks to make them powerful tools that showcase the core DNA of Battlefield, rather than making them necessary to survive or win late-game. This includes significant adjustments to helicopter countermeasures and ammunition economics.
