With Call of Duty Season 4 released, Activision quietly puts ads into Black Ops 6 and Warzone loads, raising backlash in the process.
Activision is not well known for the active monetization of premium Black Ops 6 and its free battle Royal Warzone, but this latest move may have put some players on the edge.
After Season 4 is released, you can see ads for weapon packs in the Build and Weapons menu. For players, none of these are avoidable.
Elsewhere, Activision has added bundles and battle passes to the Events tab, another controversial change that has caused complaints.
Here is a clip of the response, from Call of Duty Call, Disharmony and Social Media:
- If this is just in Warzone, I wouldn't even get mad, it's a free game, but pays for premium titles, and how expensive are they? f **k leaves.
- The game is still 80€ and I know they make most of the money from the store, but I think the minimum for premium products is not to let ads clog the menu?
- At this point, it feels like opening a mobile game where you see more options to buy anything in this game.
- Anyone who wants this bundle will check the store and buy it. Putting it here won't let more people buy it only Annoying.
- Just wait until they add pop-up ads to bundle while they play the game.
Call of Duty has had a monetization crisis in the pastcertainly. Players are used to get entry costs for Battle Pass, Premium Battle Pass, and even the more expensive Premium Battle Pass for $70 (about $80). But after Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard's $6.9 billion acquisition, the microtransaction strategy for this franchise is becoming increasingly fierce.
It is worth noting that earlier this month The event was given up Warzone mobile phoneaims to bring the Royal Campaign to a new era game and admits that it has not met expectations.
