Earlier this month, Sega confirmed Sonic Racing: Crossworlds Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga (Yakuza), Joker (Persona 5), and even Steve, Alex and Creeper from Minecraft. But the guest roles are more than that. SEGA has now announced a Nickelodeon collaboration that brings SpongeBob to the track and teases Avatar and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turples characters.
Sonic Racing: Crossworlds is a kart racer with a SEGA character, thus celebrating the company's history. Additionally, the guest characters with big names are helping to enrich the racers’ roster. As part of that, those who buy Sonic Racing: Crossworlds Digital Deluxe Edition will receive a season pass that includes Nickelodeon content as well as recently announced Minecraft characters, vehicles and tracks, roles from the Netflix series, Sonic Prime, Sonic Prime and two yet-to-be-determined collaborations.
The trailer below shows the Spongebob Squarepants and Patrick Star racing, Patty Wagon shaped vehicles in the Bikini Bottom Track, on the Bikini Bottom Track (the bottom of the bikini is the main environment of the Spongebob Squareperts series).
Sega has said that if you include DLC, Crossworlds will have a large list of playable characters. The characters you expect to see, such as Sonic, Dr. Eggman, knuckles, shadows and tails, but people like Spongebob Squarepants can now be added to the mix.
Crossworlds of course dealt with Mario Kart World, the exclusive Switch 2 kart game, which so far has refused to add guest characters from outside the Nintendo Pantheon. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is designed to be released on Switch and Switch 2, so when Sega launches SEGA in September, we seem to be setting up for some old-fashioned Mario vs. Sonic Kart Racing Rivalry.
IGN has been there recently Hands-on with Sound Racing: Crossworlds And left a deep impression. We said, “It’s an atmosphere and I love it and look forward to wandering.”
