Fortnite comes with new new modes – once, the game's main combat royal option is no longer the most popular

Blitz Royale launched this week in Fortnite’s latest update, along with Expeditions, a new story blends the story’s PVE LEGO LEGO experience and a new season with Bruno Mars starring the guitar-heroic Fortnite Festival.
But, as it keeps happening, this mode is closest to Fortnite’s classic battle contest (Royale) breaking out – Blitz Royale feels it has found a fresh niche for players who are keen to try faster paces and faster things.
As the name suggests, the overall time and speed of the afterburners in Blitz Royale are much faster than the classic Royale release. The map of this mode is currently based on Fortnite's classic OG Island, which is a small part of its size, the building is disabled, and has a matching level system to grant weapons and electricity, meaning there is no need to spend time robbing the heist.
That said, there are other Grand Royals that still exist: a fast-moving storm circle, limited inventory, that needs to be the last player. Over the next four weeks (Epic Games has not pointed out specifically that Blitz Royale will be a permanent addition), a variety of loot pools will be available, including items and authorized medals from a variety of classic Fortnite Eras.
Blitz Royale plays in Fortnite on every platform, but this is the first mode designed with a specific hardware: your phone.
Blitz Royale reached time shortly after Fortnite’s victory back to the US iPhone App Store, which is designed to attract those who want a bite-sized Battle Royale, perfect for a quick bus trip or coffee break. Even at the start of the game, the battle bus will fly faster.
Blitz Royale’s suitable quick trailer claims you can win in five minutes – in Fortnite’s regular battle Royale and zero-made modes, it’s usually a quarter of the time it takes to win in a quarter of the time.
Currently, Fortnite Stats shows about 240,000 players in Blitz Royale, making it the game's biggest assist, with AFTR hitting 443,000 players during the peak hours last night. The Royal Campaign currently has half the hit rate – at the time of writing, there are 119,000 players.
“Blitz Royale is S**T,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “Seriously, epic – love this pattern, you guys all cook. I was blown away badly and had a great time.”
“This pattern is surprising,” another wrote. “I performed much more than I was in the normal mode, and honestly, it was cool.”
Epic Games may take a closer look at Blitz Royale and other new additions to see how they perform in the next few days and whether any of them are actually attracting new players to fortnite and providing new ways to play for existing users.
Fortnite's average player count has generally dropped this year fortnite.gg. After last year’s growth and significant player spikes, especially the Dom Doom Global Boss Battle around September 2024, as well as live events in November, including concerts and in-game events at Times Square, which include Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Ice Spice, Ice Spice and Juice WRLD.
In 2025, Fortnite runs a limited-time Star Wars mini-season that removes all regular ammunition from the game, replacing the usual guns in combat competition mode with sci-fi energy weapons.
