Sony suggests PlayStation coupled with rising prices, the highest level attracts more players

Sony shared a new report with investors saying the PlayStation 5's market growth and the continued expansion of PlayStation Plus' user base. The latter has been so successful that it has added users to the highest subscription tier that Sony is already considering the price increase of PS Plus “to maximize profitability.”

“The PlayStation Plus service provides tremendous value for our players and we will continue to add value and adjust pricing strategies in a dynamic way to maximize profitability,” Nishino said.

Nishino's statement posted at Sony's speech showed that 38% of all PlayStation and subscribers chose the first two tiers, Premium and Extra. Additionally, the percentage of additional levels of PS plus subscribers increased from Sony's fiscal 2022 to 16% to 22% in fiscal 2024. During the same period, PlayStation Plus premium subscribers rose from 13% to 17% of all PS Plus users.
Nishino noted that Sony will “add more value” to the PS plus subscription to justify raising the price. It is unclear what this might require, especially since Sony has left the path of the following game pass, which is to drop AAA games on the service on the first day.
