The Sonic Cinematic Universe Keeps Expanding

Paramount has announced another Sonic the Hedgehog movie and plans to release the “Sonic Universe Feature Film” in theaters on December 22, 2028.

The fourth entry in the main Sonic movie series is Planned for March 2027the newly announced film will be released next year, based on deadline. However, the exact content of the film has yet to be confirmed. All Paramount has confirmed is that it exists in the Sonic universe.

The three Sonic movies have grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide to date, so it's no surprise that Paramount is investing further. A spinoff of the TV show Knuckles is scheduled for release in 2024 on Paramount+. There is no word yet on whether there will be a second season.

Paramount, which was recently acquired by David Ellison's Skydance, is now one of the suitors for Warner Bros. Discovery Channel, but it remains to be seen whether a deal will come to fruition.

In addition to the Sonic movie series, Paramount is also partnering with Activision to produce a live-action Call of Duty movie. Ellison, the son of billionaire Oracle founder Larry Ellison, is a huge fan of Call of Duty and is bringing Hell or High Water Taylor Sheridan will co-write the script. Peter Berg, the writer and director of the war film “Lone Survivor,” will direct Paramount's “Line of Duty” movie.

2027 is shaping up to be a big year for video game movies. Following the launch of “Sonic 4” in March 2027, Zelda live-action movie to be released in May 2027 and then Minecraft Movie 2 to be released in July 2027.
