Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is also facing some flak, with Paramount Pictures reportedly planning a live-action reboot series inspired by the Sonic movie series.
sources revealed hollywood reporter Paramount has given up R-rated “The Last Ronin”a live-action/animated hybrid (although it may return one day), will now focus on a live-action film. The sequel to “Mutant Mayhem” will still be released on September 17, 2027.
First released in 2020, The Last Ronin tells the story of a dystopian world where all but one of the turtles are dead, Draw inspiration from God of War Among other works. It was written by original writers Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, who said it was based on an outline of a 1987 story.
The Last Ronin was a huge success for the Turtles, earning the story sequels including A new generation of sea turtles. one the last ronin video game Also in development, although we haven't had an update in a while.
The last live-action or live-action/animation hybrid Turtles movie was 2016's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, which bombed at the box office. Successful animated Turtles movies follow, including 2023's Mutant Mayhem.
Paramount Pictures has hired Neal H. Moritz, producer of the “Fast and Furious” and “Sonic” franchises, to lead the new Turtles charge to “unleash its full potential,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Given the success of the Sonic movies, you can see why Paramount wanted producers responsible for repeating this trick with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In January, Paramount praised the success of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, with Sonic 3 helping it top $1 billion at the global box office. “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” starring Keanu Reeves, released in 2024, grossed nearly $500 million at the box office during its release.
It feels like it's still early days for this new era of Turtles movies, and there's no indication of when the first movie will be released.
