Brendan Greene – Creator of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds PUBG— has been working on his new open-world survival game, Preface: Go back!for much of the past four years. Now, the prologue: Back in time! It officially enters Early Access today, giving players the chance to brave the elements from the comfort of their own home.
Prologue unfolds from a first-person perspective, via a procedurally generated map, taking players into a landscape that changes with each playthrough. Even the weather can change dramatically, forcing you to make choices about how to survive. Thirst, hunger, and body temperature all need to be maintained long enough to reach the weather tower. There are always multiple ways to achieve this goal, and many ways to die if you take the wrong action.
As part of the launch, PlayerUnknown Productions is rolling out a few features. Players will be able to customize the weather, temperature, and time of day at the start of each game, which can make the experience easier or more difficult.
The standard mode is called “Go Wayback!”, but there's a more difficult option called “Goal: Survive.” In the latter, you have limited resources to rely on. Users who just want to explore can try free-roam mode, which makes the game less survivable. But if you fall from a height, you can still die.
One of the most interesting new features is the map editor, which lets you import images into an in-game map and use it to create custom worlds. Or you can design your own map.
Future Early Access updates are planned to introduce more dynamic weather modes, the ability to craft items from available materials, climbing gear, and clothing that will degrade or tear if players don't repair it.
Preface: Go back! Now on sale for $20 steam and epic games store.
