NieR creator Yoko Taro is still developing the game, but it keeps getting canceled

Yoko Taro, the creator of the Nier and Dragon Guard games, has been very quiet lately. While he's been involved in a few smaller projects (writing scenes for Sound of Cards and a few mobile games), his lack of a proper Nier follow-up or other new major game has annoyed fans. But according to Taro, he have Always working on projects. They just keep getting canceled.
This is his speech at the Korean gaming conference G-Con 2025, 4gamer reports and Translated by automaton. The panel featured Taro, Bayonetta, and Okami director Hideki Kamiya, and the two asked for an update on recent projects. Kamiya mentioned The upcoming sequel to “Master”although Taro says he's been busy with new projects, they always get canceled midway through.
“I'm often told 'Why don't you make a new sequel to Nier' or 'Yoko Taro didn't do anything', but that's because a lot of the projects I've been involved in lately have been killed in the middle of development,” he said.
“I've actually been working on something, it just never ended up seeing the light of day. I got paid for it, so I personally don't have a problem with it, but people seem to think I don't do anything just because none of the work I do gets posted.”
Taro, however, was apparently undeterred. He went on to say that he would rather fail over and over again and end up with something good than put out multiple mediocre ones. “I believe that if I'm going to post something weird, I'd better not post anything at all.”
So, this might not be “good” news for Nier fans hoping that another Nier game is coming. Especially after “NieR: Reincarnation” Actually a sequel to NieR: Automataremains completely unplayable as it is a mobile gashapon game that has been taken offline with seemingly no plans for a re-release.
Wish Taro good luck and hope we get to see his new project released soon.
