We had Popeye's Five Nights at Freddy's 2 deluxe box set

Fast food and video games are often combined in a variety of ways. Most of the time, we talk about new toys or Pokemon cards in kids' meals, but Popeye's decided to celebrate the upcoming release of Five Nights at Freddy's 2 in theaters with a new meal.

The meal, called the “Freddy Fazbear Deluxe Box,” features two new menu items and a new way to enjoy the long-standing classic, and is priced at $13. Thanks to Popeye's for sending us a sample of the meal, we put the meal to the test and to be honest, we'd probably go back for seconds.

The Freddy Fazbear Deluxe Box contains the following:

• Three* chicken fingers served with special garlic parmesan rub
• Order the Cheesy Bites, hand-wrapped fried cheese curds (also available in a garlic crust) and a cup of ketchup
• Cupcake cups, strawberry flavored cake with pink frosting
• Soft drink of your choice

*This meal is advertised as having three chicken fingers, but the box that arrived today only had two. I don't know what happened there, but losing a finger didn't ruin the entire meal.

There's also the Freddy Fazbear box, which costs $8 and includes chicken fingers and cheese crackers, but not the cupcake cups. Cheesy Bites (with marinara cups) and cupcake cups can also be purchased individually for $4 each.

Cheesy Bites, cupcake cups, and garlic parmesan on chicken fingers are all exclusive to the Freddy Fazbear box, and honestly, it's a creative way to bring a “pizza shop” feel to a fried chicken box. Hats off to whoever came up with it.

It's easiest to break the meal down by each corresponding item, so that's what we're going to do. Something to note right off the bat: the drink that came with the meal was sweet tea, which is terrible because I don't actually like iced tea of ​​any kind. However, I do realize that I am an anomaly in this regard.

cheese bites

I'm going to go in chronological order of what I ate during my meal, so let's start with the cheese bites. Fried cheese curds are hard to mess up, and thankfully Popeye didn't find a way to do so.

The cheese is hot and melty, and the garlic parmesan breadcrumbs used to fry them make them taste like mini mozzarella sticks. The marinara dipping cup was a nice touch too, although I didn't dip it as much as I thought I would.

This wasn't my first time trying Popeye's Chicken, but just like the cheese bites, the garlic parmesan seasoning on the outside added a different and delicious flavor. The portion of chicken feet is also very generous and very satisfying to eat.

I would say that while this is not the intended use, dipping chicken fingers in tomato sauce is definitely encouraged. The “Chicken Fingers Parmesan” sounds like a great idea for a future collaboration; save a little sauce for the chicken and see what I mean.

cupcake cup

The bright pink frosting on the cupcake cups added a pop of color to the whole meal, and the strawberry frosting smelled and tasted great. The cake inside was thick and buttery and a great way to end the meal.

However, there is a caveat: this is a dense Dessert, the kind of cake that sinks right into the pit of your stomach like a slab of concrete. I recommend waiting until after dinner to order this meal, otherwise your productivity will drop because you won't be able to move.

All in all, this is a good deal. Everything here tastes good, the pizzeria theme comes through in the special garlic parmesan and bright pink cakes, and those cheese snacks feel like they could have a permanent spot on the Popeyes menu. There's nothing to be afraid of; the Freddy Fazbear Deluxe Gift Box is a treat and a great deal.
