Survival action RPG Enshrouded launched in early access last year and became an instant hit, attracting more than 1 million players in four days and currently has “very positive” reviews on Steam, with nearly 75,000 reviews. In the months since, developer Keen Games has continued to update the game, with its newly released Update 7 (titled “Wake of the Water”) being its largest update yet.
If you're not familiar with Enshrouded, it's a mix of survival-lite, exploration, action-RPG combat, and base-building in a world that you can completely transform. The all-consuming fog known as the Shroud corrodes everything it touches, and you must seek out materials to craft gear to survive the unforgiving environment and the mutated monsters it creates.
Play solo or cooperatively with up to 16 players, voxel-based building allows you to create a home limited only by your imagination and willingness to invest. Builds can be shared between servers around the world, so you can visit them in person, and there are some truly amazing player builds to check out.
Take German YouTuber as an example Kontrak As well as his community building, you can look here. They completely recreated Isengard from The Lord of the Rings, a feat that required more than 22 million voxels and 54,000 decorative items, nearly 4,400 hours of work by 15 players and 61 days of construction. All materials are grown by hand, no mods or cheats are used.
The biggest highlight of Water Awakening (the only water pun, we promise) is the introduction of swimming and new water gameplay. Most of the things you can do on land can be done underwater, with new animations. This includes opening treasure chests, collecting plants and other loot, pressing buttons to solve puzzles, and using underwater mining tools to collect ore. There are also floodgates and new water-based puzzles where you can fill rooms to reach previously unreachable levels, as well as traps that try to drown you.
The main thing you can't do underwater is fight, which is why the new enemy faction of the Lizardmen poses a problem. They're called “drakes” and they can pull out their spears and chase you underwater, so you always need to be aware of your surroundings and how to get back to the surface quickly. Dragons can also fight on land, but at least it's a fair fight.
Another major addition in the update is the Veil Basin, the Mist World's first water biome. This is a new type of environment, and it brings with it a lot of other new things. These include quest and lore logs, as well as points of interest ranging from settlements to temples to the roots of the Shroud and the Well of Elixir. There are also tons of new materials and resources for crafting and base building, so many that we can't possibly list them all here. Trust us, there are plenty.
As we all know it's impossible to have water biomes without fishing, so that was added as well. You can now automatically collect worms when transforming dirt, and these worms can be used as bait. Other types of bait include moths, fireflies and frogs. There are five fishing rods of different qualities, and throwing the fishing line into the water will start a mini-game. The fish will randomly bite the hook and then try to escape to the right or left. You need to pull the rod in the opposite direction and then reel it in when the fish gets tired. Repeat this until you catch a fish, the difficulty of the mini-game will depend on the fish on your line and the quality of the rod you are using.
If you're more focused on building your base, here's the good news: water can flow dynamically and be used as a source of plant irrigation or to power new parts of your base. You can dig irrigation channels to carry water to your plants, which will grow faster in watered soil. Some new plants, such as rice and algae, will only grow underwater.
There is a new buildable water wheel that spins when in contact with running water. If the water flow is strong enough, it can be connected to an advanced grinding wheel. There's also a new watering can that you can manually fill in a lake or bucket, or you can use it to fill base pools or water plants. What crazy and creative ways will the community come up with to use running water? Only time will tell, maybe you can become a trendsetter.
In addition to all the water-centric additions, there are also gameplay and quality-of-life improvements. New spells and abilities have been added, the stats of several pieces of equipment have been rebalanced, wands have more inherent mana regeneration, customizable UI labels for chests and logos have been added, and more.
As we said, there's plenty of content here to keep players busy for a long time. For more information on Enshrouded or Wake of the Water updates, you can check out Official website Or follow the game or developer Keen Games twitter or Disharmonious.
