The most common specimens: Ursinoid transplanted parts, Mantiqueen transplanted parts or mechanical augmentation
The next Inez transplant in The Outer Worlds 2 comes from a mission called “The Most Remarkable Specimen.” It's not that obvious at first, but eventually you'll see multiple options:
- You must advance the main story until you have access to ACS Undisputed Claims. Take the tram to the Esplanade, get off the tram and talk to the courier NPC standing aside to get the recording.
- Return to your ship and play the recording through the central terminal. The “Most Remarkable Specimen” quest should appear in your diary.
- Head to the monastery's frozen moon and trek all the way to the northeast of the area. Just past the Frozen Throat you'll see an elevator. Inez will activate it so you can enter the Algied Zoo.
In the cold zoo you have to deal with the furious creatures that are escaping. You can attempt to appease the creatures, or remove them as you see fit. There is another unique weapons in this facility.
Then, be sure to create a backup save before you enter the control room where you can find the NPC named Giles Rasmussen. You can choose to kill Rasmussen, which Inez prefers. Alternatively, you can spare him, much to Inez's chagrin:
- To avoid Rasmussen, you must choose the following responses when prompted:
- “Do you have a transplant that could help Inez?”
- “This could be your way of proving yourself. At least let's hear his side of the story.”
- “His research could help a lot of people. The good may outweigh the harm.”
- “Saving the program is a pragmatic option but may not be as successful as you hope.”
- If you let Rasmussen go, he will interact with the console. This allows you to remove the Ursopod and Mantiqueen transplants from the display case. Note that there is a bug where Rasmussen cannot interact with the device at all. If this happens during gameplay, just reload your save.
- To kill Rasmussen, simply choose any of the more hostile reactions, or let Inez decide to kill him. While the display case is inaccessible, you can still loot the mechanical enhancements from his corpse.
- Note Kill Rasmussen back Letting him go would ruin the mission. Inez will just tell you to return to the ship.
Solve this problem as you see fit, then return to Ethel Tinsley's lab in Fairfield to implant another biomechanical device into Inez's arm:
- Ursopod Hive Graft – Use Inez's abilities to enhance her defense and armor, increasing her survivability in combat.
- Mantis Hive Transplantation – Using Inez's ability will also release Mantis Hive Transplantation in the area, terrifying affected enemies.
- Mechanical Augmentation – Grants the Graft Stabilization Matrix additional ability, which provides Inez with two ability charges.
Our picks: Without a doubt, Mechanical Augmentation is the best Inez port in The Outer Worlds 2. Considering Inez's skill at healing and buffing her team, having two ability charges is often very useful. However, killing Rasmussen may lock you into a specific mission at the end, as we detail below. If you choose to keep Rasmussen, mantis hive transplants are often a more viable option.
