Hybrid action RPG Duet Night Abyss launches globally with new monetization system

Duet Night Abyss, a free-to-play hybrid action RPG now available globally on PC, mobile devices and the Epic Games Store, features dual narratives with two protagonists, no stamina limits for movement or commissions, and no character or weapon gacha system. Duet Night Abyss takes place in the world of Atlasia, where tree-shaped crystals known as the Trees of Heaven are considered a gift from the gods and gave rise to a central religion called the Church of Elysium. Initially, almost everyone followed the religion, but over time, the group split and formed its own factions.

You play the story from the perspective of two protagonists with very different backgrounds, and you can freely choose and deploy them in different chapters. You'll meet people from several different factions in Atlasia, and you can unlock many of them as playable characters by using character shards, which can be obtained by purchasing the exact amount required for a specific character or by collecting them in-game.

Characters are not divided into levels or stars, and all characters are as viable in combat as any other. There are no character gacha banners either, you have to spend resources and just hope you end up getting what you want. You can identify the character you want, collect the required crystals, and be 100% guaranteed to unlock that character.

As the developers say We interviewed them in Augustthis is in response to player feedback and aims to make the game more accessible for free-to-play (F2P) players. As part of the game's global launch rewards, players can complete activities to unlock seven characters for free, giving you the chance to build the team you want from the start.

No matter what character you want to use in combat, you can equip them with melee and ranged weapons and switch between them on the fly. Every weapon type is available to every character, so you can equip them however you want.

Melee weapon options include standard choices like swords, polearms, and greatswords, as well as more unique weapons like the whip sword. There are also a variety of ranged options, from bows to dual pistols, grenade launchers, and shotguns. Like characters, weapons aren't locked behind banners or divided into different tiers or stars. So you can use any combination of weapons you want without losing any optimization.

Combat pits you against waves of enemies in hack-and-slash action, where you'll mow down hordes of enemies in seconds. The flow of combat is kept fast as there are multiple movement options and no stamina requirements, so there's no need to keep an eye on the meter to see which moves are available. At any time, you can sprint, grapple, dodge, jump, double jump, wall jump, or spiral jump, allowing you to quickly move great distances with one press of the button.

You can tackle commissions with up to three players in co-op mode, or go it alone with two AI companions. There are also no stamina limits on commissions, so there is no limit to how long you can play freely. You can also further customize your fighting style with Demonic Wedges, versatile add-ons you can earn during commissions.

There are three types of Demon Wedge: character weapons, melee weapons, and ranged weapons. They increase your health, critical strike chance, attack speed, and other attributes. As you earn and upgrade them, these boosts are guaranteed to be at a set level, so you don't have to keep grinding for the same thing and hoping for a better version. No randomization involved.

In addition to stat boosts, Demonic Wedge also changes your character's attack and skill mechanics, and you can combine them with certain weapon traits to customize your attack patterns. Once you obtain the Demonic Wedge, you can use it on any number of characters or weapons. Again, there is no need to purchase additional versions to equip multiple versions.

Characters, weapons, and demon wedges can all be obtained through normal gameplay. The game's monetization model is currently focused solely on cosmetics, including a range of character skins, accessories, patterns, dye colors, and weapon skins. Both clothing and weapons can be dyed, allowing for additional customization.

The developer recently launched new skins for the characters Psyche and Rebecca, as well as the duo Truffle and Filbert. They also showed off a Christmas-themed skin and a new sword skin called “Tough Love.” As part of the game's global launch rewards, players can receive up to 107 original hourglasses and prismatic hourglasses simply by logging in. These items can be used to paint new skins.
