Board games and anime are in a golden age right now, with both becoming more popular and widely accepted than ever before. I consider myself lucky that I live in a time where I also get to see these two great things come together in equally—almost Voltron-esque—awesome new ways. One of the most exciting recent examples of this collaboration is the upcoming game Monolith Board Game Berserker: The Board Gamewhich became a hit on Gamefound this month.
The tabletop game, adapted from Kentaro Miura's novel, has nearly 5,900 backers and has raised just over €2 million at the time of writing. Berserk Comics/Animation Already hitting its funding goal just like Gus slicing through demons with his signature dragon slayer. Berserk: The Board Game allows 1-5 players to take up character weapons, including Serpico, Farnese, Isidro, Shierke, and of course Guts, to slay demonic enemies. All of Guts' crew comes as detailed miniatures just begging to be painted. These plastic heads of Glenbeld and his Glenbeld Apostles, Slan and Makara are eye-catching and the over 120 miniatures are a treasure trove for fans who love to paint.
Fans of the Berserker comics will be able to enjoy a wealth of art lifted from the original stories. All action cards that make up each character's deck feature iconic moments from the series, as well as impressive enemy cards and more. The core game box gives you an 11-act campaign, taking place in millennium falcon arcbut additional Black Swordsman expansion packs are also available during the campaign, allowing you to build your adventure with tons of possible combinations and options, including the characters in your party and the enemies you'll face.
While board game adaptations, especially these magnificent boxes, are not uncommon these days, most of the time it seems Video games are a source of materialit’s exciting to see an anime with as much tradition and personality as Berserker. Monolith Board Games has a history of adapting tabletop properties that allow players to team up and attack fiercely, having previously designed games based on Conan the Barbarian and Batman. Berserker combines dice rolling, card drawing, and grid-based movement, and it looks like it's going to be another scary good time.

This is certainly a premium product, with the core pledge alone setting you back €200 (~$233), and if you want them all, including 184 miniatures, the total price jumps to €335 (~$390). Gamefound does offer StretchPay, which allows you to pay off these hefty fees within a few months. As someone who has taken advantage of this myself, it helps a lot!
